Job Summary

The consultant will be part of a team of environmental risk management specialists working in the World Bank, Ethiopia Country Office, Addis Ababa. The consultant will provide technical expertise on a variety of environmental risk management issues related to investment and program for results operations financed by the World Bank. More specifically the consultant will be expected to: i) participate as team member in the preparation and/or supervision of environmental safeguards policy requirements and the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) in different Bank funded operations, including  participating in identification missions; supporting implementation of the ESF and safeguards policy requirements and maintaining regular discussion with the client’s environmental specialist and enhance their capacity on environmental risk management;; ii) participate in field implementation support and supervision missions and contributing to Aide Memoires; iii) participate in training the client’s environmental risk management experts; iv) carry out any other activities relevant for environmental risk management

Job Requirement

General requirements:

• The consultant needs have an advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in environmental engineering, environmental science, civil engineering, or related fields, with a strong preference for candidates with good technical training in environmental risk management related to ecology, pollution management, solid waste management.
• A minimum of 8 years of full-time relevant professional experience in environmental management sector is required.
• Fluency in English is required (writing, speaking, listening, and reading).
• Proven teamwork and successful experience working with multi-disciplinary teams. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel extensively in Ethiopia, including to remote rural areas.
• Experience in the World Bank financed projects is highly desirable.
