Job Description


The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic Church-based non-governmental organization with a mission to accompany, serve and protect refugees and internally displaced persons–regardless of faith, race, ethnicity, or nationality. The main areas of work are in the field of education, emergency assistance, livelihood and social services. JRS is a non-profit venture of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) that was established in 1980. JRS works in more than 56 countries worldwide. It has committed itself in Ethiopia for almost four decades helping refugees from many places. JRS is now recruiting a dynamic individual to fill a role of Education Officer for its Dollo Ado project office.

Responsibilities

The following are the expectation and responsibilities for this position:

Planning (30%)

  • Develop a clear plan of action for the implementation of adult education program.
  • Develop proposal on how to provide capacity building training for IFAL teachers and supportive staff. Organize and provide continuous capacity building training.

Assessment and analysis ( 25%)

  • Assists in the collection and analysis of data for the Situation Analysis. Assists in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Adult Education Program in Melkadida operation.
  • Conduct need assessment on the ongoing adult education program and evaluate its impact on the direct beneficiary.
  • Provide Technical Assistance for IFAL teacher on roaster development, continuous assessment, and classroom management.
  • Facilitate CoC examination for those vocational training graduates
  • Conduct need assessment on the ongoing adult education program and evaluate its impact on the direct beneficiary
  • Assist on conducting risk communication and community engagement activities, support community structure, in disseminating key information to POCs, collect & share complaints and feedback.

Monitoring and Evaluation ( 25%)

  • Undertakes ongoing visits to JRS project sites, assesses local conditions and resources, and monitors JRS inputs.
  • Undertakes follow-up action on program implementation activities, contributes to teamwork building, and prepares relevant reports. Drafts changes in programmed work plans as required and take part in logistic support and financial support at melkadida operation.
  • Communicates with and provide technical assistance to local counterpart authorities and staff on project feasibility and effectiveness including monitoring the flow of supply and non-supply assistance.
  • Attends technical cooperation meetings at the zonal level, prepares notes and undertakes follow-up actions and coordination related to programmed implementation and monitoring and performance melkadida operation
  • Monitor and report on the progress of adult education programmed/projects and submit periodic reports with appropriate recommendations for timely interventions/corrective measures.

Teaching, Working on Curriculum and Reporting (30%)

  • Delivering Courses as per the IFAL curriculum to the adult learners
  • Coordinate programming that contributes to improved learning outcomes at school level, provides technical assistance, and appropriate monitoring and reporting
  • Facilitate, support and lead team in the development of Curriculum for adult education program. work closely with local government education office to support in the development of the program.

Follow- up the vocational skills trainings deliver in the camp

Job Level: V

Duty Station: JRS Dollo Ado Project intervention area (Bokolomayo and Dollo Ado Woredas in Somali region of Ethiopia)

Reports to: Livelihood & Job Creation Coordinator

Term of Employment: 9 months, possibility of extension based on performance and availability of fund.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BSc or MA/MSc degree in economics, Teaching, agricultural economics, sociology, development studies, environment and development studies and other relevant fields
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience for MA/MSc applicants or 5 years of experience for BA/BSc applicants.
  • Proven experiences in teaching and vocational trainings, financial inclusion and job creation interventions for refugees and host communities.
  • Proficiency in speaking English and speaking Afan Somali is mandatory.
  • Proven skills of delivering trainings and prepare training materials.
