Job Description


Our Mission is to promote and protect abroad the values, interests and economic well-being of Ireland and its people we do this under the political direction of our ministers, through our staff at home and through our embassy network abroad.

The Embassy Driver/Logistics Officer is responsible for driving embassy staff as necessary, vehicle maintenance, and providing logistical and procurement support to the work of the embassy. This role involves a wide variety of tasks as detailed below.

Role and Responsibilities

The precise range of duties will vary over time according to the requirements of the Embassy. Significant out-of-hours work will be expected but within the local employment law provisions. This role will include, but may not be limited to the following activities.

  • Driving embassy staff to and from official engagement and picking up official visitors as required;
  • Maintaining the official vehicle (bringing for regular services, washing and cleaning, etc)
  • Check the condition and accessories of vehicles before and after each trip and report any problems to the direct supervisor;
  • Assisting in the renewal of the Embassy’s car insurance vehicle registration and any other administration related to the vehicle;
  • Keeping track of mileage, fuel and toll expenses;
  • Proper recording and reporting of accidents according to the Ethiopian Traffic law;
  • Expedite/Liaise different affairs of the Embassy with government and Non-government organizations such as banks, customs, telecommunications, water & electricity authority, immigration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.
  • Assisting with Embassy events – transporting and loading equipment as required;
  • Daily collection/delivery of post;
  • Managing the dispatch of diplomatic letters;
  • Collecting proforma invoices and purchase items from suppliers upon request by directsuperervisor
  • Working with residence/chancery on various repairs and maintenances, paying monthly utility bills, liaising with the residence supporting staff and assisting with other logistical duties at the chancery or residence as required;
  • Carry out other tasks as requested by the head of logistics

Essential Requirements:

  • The candidate must have completed at least high school education;
  • Candidates must be very good in English: (language test may be included as part of the shortlisting process)
  • A minimum of five years previous driving experience working with embassies, non-governmental organizations or international organizations;
  • Valid 3rd-grade driving license, and highly competent driving skills; (A Driving test will be part of the recruitment process;)
  • A very good geographical knowledge of the country and ability to use GPS/Online Maps;
  • Knowledge of mechanics, safety and health skills
  • A high-level discretion, commitment and reliability
  • A flexible attitude, good judgment and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent punctuality and time management;
  • Availability to work out of hours and additional hours as required
  • The successful candidates must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Ethiopia prior to recruitment
  • Salaries will be paid directly into your bank account, all employees are therefore required to have a bank account;
