Job Description


The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing countries. ILRI is a member of the CGIAR Consortium, a global research partnership of 15 centres working with many partners for a food-secure future. ILRI has two main campuses in East Africa and other hubs in East, West and southern Africa and South, Southeast and East Asia.

The Position:

The Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (The Alliance; https://alliancebioversityciat.org/) seeks to recruit a Driver/Logistics Assistant who be a member of the Alliance which is based at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) campus in Addis Ababa.

General:

The Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) delivers research-based solutions that address the global crises of malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. The Alliance focuses on the nexus of agriculture, nutrition and environment. We work with local, national, and multinational partners across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and with the public and private sectors and civil society. The Alliance is organized into six key levers: 1)Food environment and consumer behavior – reshaping the food environment and consumer behavior toward healthy and sustainable diets; 2) Multifunctional landscapes – fostering innovation for environmental health and productive landscapes to improve livelihoods; 3) Climate action – mainstreaming climate action in the food system to reduce risks; 4) Biodiversity for food and agriculture – making agricultural and tree diversity available and safeguarding it for the diverse needs of food system actors; 5) Digital inclusion – promoting inclusion in the digital agriculture revolution for equitable benefits; and 6) Crops for nutrition and health – putting nutrition and health at the heart of crop improvement to address the triple burden of malnutrition. The job will provide support to the Multifunctional landscapes lever in Ethiopia though the day-to-day follow-up of project implementation on the ground, leasing with partners and researchers at federal, regional and local level, and analysis, interpretation, and presentation of scientific evidences.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertakes driving assignments of vehicles as and when assigned by his/her supervisor (within and outside of Addis);
  • Ensures vehicles are managed in accordance with ILRI’s policies, operates, maintains and cleans assigned vehicles with care and reports any damage and/or suspected fault immediately to his/her supervisor;
  • Ensures that the vehicle is kept overnight in a secure location and that the vehicle key is handed over to the supervisor, unless explicitly agreed on otherwise by the supervisor;
  • Records and maintains the transport log-book for any vehicles assigned to him/her;
  • Responsible for the vehicles and all tools, equipment and spare parts on the vehicle assigned to him/her;
  • Liaises with his/her supervisor to ensure that routine service and maintenance is undertaken timely;
  • Works closely with ILRI support units;
  • Liaises with field staff in terms of support they might require (vehicles, equipment, furniture, repairs etc);
  • Provides administrative support in organizing and arranging conferences and workshops
  • Provides support for partners, visitors, students, consultants;
  • Provides administrative support for various office functions, including binding, printing, duplicating, etc.;
  • Works closely with procurement section to ensure procurement is done in a timely manner
  • Record and maintain fixed assets for the unit;
  • Supports maintenance/fixing of assets in the unit;
  • Ensures that the necessary stationary and associated items are available in sufficient quantity;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Education

  • High school certificate plus certificate in relevant field Or
  • Diploma from a recognized university/college in relevant field
  • Knowledge in relevant field and use of simple tools and equipment

Experience

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience for high school certificate or
  • At least 1 year relevant experience for Diploma holders and safe driving record & one year experience in logistic support

Skill

  • Valid driving license and good driving record;
  • Good working knowledge of written and spoken English is essential
  • Additional technical training related to duties of this position would also be an advantage
  • Willingness to work after office hours and/or holidays if required
  • Skill in Off-road driving skills
  • Trustworthy and reliable;
  • Willingness to work under pressure
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position level: HG 09

Minimum Base Salary

  • Birr 15,422 per month (Negotiable depending on salary history of the candidate)

Terms of appointment: Initial appointment is for six months renewable appointment based on performance and funding availability.
