Job Description


The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing the transportation of cement and related products. This role involves scheduling deliveries, confirming sales and delivery orders, and ensuring all documentation processes are finalized before and after vehicles are weighed at the weighbridge. The Dispatcher will collaborate closely with finance and sales teams to ensure efficient operations while adhering to safety regulations and maintaining inventory accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

Logistics Operations Management:

  • Oversee daily logistics activities, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of cement products.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to manage inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Monitor and manage the movement of goods across different locations, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  1. Inventory Management:
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure the availability of cement products while minimizing excess stock and obsolescence.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies to maintain accurate records.
  • Implement inventory control procedures to improve accuracy and reduce losses.
  1. Transportation Coordination:
  • Schedule and dispatch drivers for cement deliveries, ensuring optimal route planning and vehicle utilization.
  • Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, monitoring performance and ensuring service quality.
  • Address any transportation-related issues, such as delays or damages, to ensure smooth operations.
  1. Weighbridge Coordination:
  • Check vehicle lists for the weighbridge, ensuring all vehicles are ready for weighing and that necessary documentation is complete.
  • Finalize all documentation processes before and after vehicles are weighed, including weight tickets and delivery confirmations.
  1. Warehousing and Storage:
  • Oversee warehousing operations, including receiving, storing, and dispatching cement products.
  • Ensure efficient use of warehouse space while maintaining safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Implement best practices in warehouse management to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  1. Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within logistics operations and work with the Logistics Manager to implement changes.
  • Leverage technology to enhance logistics efficiency, including the use of warehouse management systems (WMS) and transportation management systems (TMS).
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and suggest actions to improve logistics performance.
  1. Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, regulatory, and environmental standards in logistics operations.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential disruptions in the supply chain.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all logistics activities to ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
  1. Team Leadership and Development:
  • Supervise and mentor junior logistics staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
  • Conduct regular training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of the logistics team.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.
  1. Reporting and Documentation:
  • Prepare regular reports on logistics performance, including inventory levels, transportation costs, and delivery timelines.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all logistics activities, including shipping documents, inventory records, and compliance certifications.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to the Logistics Manager based on data analysis and operational performance.

About You

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in procurement or supply chain management is a plus.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in procurement or purchasing roles.
  • Proven experience in supplier management, contract negotiation, and procurement processes.
  • Experience with procurement software and systems is an advantage.
