Job Description


The Task Force for Global Health Inc. (TFGH) is an International non-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The TFGH applies its resources, expertise, and partnerships to help public health professionals and partners meet global health challenges. The Task Force programs have an impact on global health in three sectors: Health System Strengthening, Immunizations and Vaccines, and Neglected Tropical Diseases. Each sector works collaboratively with other NGOs, government agencies, and private sector partners to help increase understanding of global health issues around the world.

International Trachoma Initiative (ITI) is a program of TFGH working to eliminate trachoma as a public health problem. ITI supports the international efforts through the donation of the antibiotic Azithromycin provided by Pfizer, data management, and advocacy through partnerships. An opportunity at ITI is an opportunity to work at the intersection of global health programs, policy and advocacy.

TFGH-Ethiopia works in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureaus and Partner NGOs in order to attain its objective.

TFGH-Ethiopia is currently seeking to hire qualified and competent professional Data Manager for the ITI program.

About Job

The Data Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining data dictionary and Meta data. The manager supports efforts to ensure that data standards are developed and maintained. She/he also ensures that the use of data through reports and queries are accurate and supports business and system re-engineering and architecture development to define future data needs and serves as an organizational consultant on matters pertaining to databases by providing expertise to assist users in meeting their needs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Be primarily responsible for trachoma/NTD data and information management activities in TFGH-Ethiopia
  • Work on assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of trachoma/NTD program activities.
  • Actively participate in program monitoring and evaluation activities with MOH-Ethiopia and partners as needed.
  • Develop and maintain the national historical trachoma mass drug administration (MDA) database electronically and with hardcopies as appropriate.
  • Assist in collecting and collating periodic MDA, Trachoma Impact Survey (TIS) and Trachoma Surveillance Survey (TSS) data.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting monthly and other periodic programmatic reports
  • Conduct periodic data analysis and flag risks and opportunities to the program team.
  • Conduct periodic field visits to regional states and provide feedback on trachoma/NTD data management practices.
  • Provide assistance on data security, data protection and responsible data-sharing.
  • Support the analysis of primary and secondary data for interpretation and evidence-based decision making.
  • Provide support in the monitoring of data and information management activities for integrity, reliability, credibility and compliance with policies.
  • Support assessments and situational analysis process with analytical frameworks, data collection, and analysis (standards, methodologies).
  • Assist in developing data management tools such as indicators, templates, maps and dashboards.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by senior management (ITI/TFGH)

Salary: Competitive (commensurate with payment history and qualifications)

Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated experience using data to make maps, including the creation or modification of shape files using mapping software (ArcMap or QGIS preferred)
  • Familiarity with using SQL language to query a database is an added advantage
  • Experience working in health management information system (HMIS) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of District Health Information System (DHIS-2) is an asset.
  • Skills in using statistical packages for data analysis such as R, SPSS, STATA, SAS, etc. would be an added advantage.
  • Willingness to travel and stay in the program areas.
  • High degree of demonstrated planning, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of spoken and written English.

Education And Experience

  • BSc in Statistics; Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Public Health, or related fields of science;
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in data management and/or statistical analysis,
  • Two years of experience in processes and standards related to data.
