Job Description


Summary

We are seeking to appoint a full-time data to action coordinator to be based in Harar, to lead the data to action activities attached to the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance activity (CHAMPS). This global health surveillance network is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and aims to understand the causes of child death in low-income countries, particularly sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. CHAMPS is a collaboration between Haramaya University, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Emory Global Health Institute. The post-holder will be responsible for data to action activities at household, community, health facility, health offices at different levels. This activity aims to provide the results of panel experts repot on the cause of death back to the stakeholders using different avenue; including but not limited to home to home, community gathering, workshops, forums, media, and conferences.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The post-holder will be responsible for leading the data to action activities in the CHAMPS site aiming to return back the results to stakeholders using different avenue; including, but not limited to, public gatherings, workshops, forums, media, and conferences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all data to action activities of HHR.
  • Work closely with the other team leads and overall team in the performance of delivering result for action at all levels
  • Plan and execute data to action activities
  • Report the performance of data to action activities at all levels in weekly meetings and quarterly reports
  • Track data to action activities to monitor performances and take appropriate actions
  • Serve as a liaison to the stakeholder leadership structures
  • Organize workshops and forums
  • Run radio programs focusing on data to action topics
  • Facilitate theater performances focusing of data to action activities
  • Support the establishment of the community, facility and office review meetings on child mortality and pregnancy surveillance
  • Facilitate community dialogue, reflections, and action-planning on child mortality and pregnancy surveillance
  • Develop strong relationships with influential community leaders and groups
  • Nurture and maintain high level of trust with communities and local government
  • Able to navigate sensitive issues with communities
  • Develop written materials including newsletters, leaflets and other printable documents.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential requirements

  • MD+MPH or MPH with two or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in building relationships with communities towards a goal of ownership and participation in health and social programming
  • Good track record of interpersonal relationship with fellow workers and supervisors
  • Evidence of excellent oral and written communications skills in English
  • Fluency in Afan-Oromo and Amharic languages
  • Very good computer literacy
  • If applicant have Studies at Government or Privet University, their educational credentials will be sent to the institution where the studied and checked for accuracy.

Desirable requirements

  • Female applicants are encouraged ,
  • Maternal and child health related training.
