Job Description

Following its first facility in Uganda, Raxio now has presence in Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mozambique, and it will continue developing additional facilities to establish a network of interconnected data centres across the Africa continent by 2023.Reports to: VP Technology and Operations

Works Closely with: MEP contractor, NOC, Data Hall Team, Vendors, Facilities Engineer and Maintenance partners.

Job Responsibility

  • Responsible for the maintenance and project management of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing), Telecom, and Structured Cabling Systems.
  • Responsible for managing sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
  • Establish Maintenance Program-with Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions
  • Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of the critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance.
  • Generate change management requests & incident management tickets for the Data Center facility.
  • Work with Data Hall engineers (IT) and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
  • Analyzing, tracking, and effectively managing critical milestone activities to avoid schedule slip during the project phase.
  • Tracking and managing the equipment to ensure they meet the project schedule on time always.
  • Supporting in the MEP engineering decisions relating to the project cost and budget while design-build changes take place during construction.
  • Driving & managing tagging of all MEP critical infrastructure as per Ashrae standard during installation and commissioning.
  • Driving and managing the snag clearance process picked up during the project implementation.
  • Leading the MEP team that is responsible for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing of critical data centre infrastructure, analyzing problems, perform troubleshooting and incident response on all MEP related tickets and liaising with maintenance support partners.
  • Managing the routine maintenance and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, room air handlers, building monitoring systems nd all plumbing aspects of the data centre when required.
  • Developing performance benchmarks, conducting analysis, and preparing reports on all aspects of the critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance when required.
  • Driving and managing the process of provision of power and cooling to the Racks.
  • Maintaining the data centre by ensuring that the provision of infrastructure & inventory asset management of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing is always done.
  • Collaborating and conducting monthly operational meetings of all electrical, Mechanical, and plumbing with vender management when required.
  • Collaborating and interfacing with the business side of the company for day-to-day operational requirements.
  • Maintaining the compliance of the data center’s equipment schedule at all times.
  • Implementing the compliance of all technical documentation i.e., MoPs, Policy, and procedures always.
  • Reviewing the data centre’s maintenance contracts and ensuring compliance and SLAs are achieved always in a timely way.
  • Managing the ITIL framework to resolve of any infrastructure engineering issues that a rise when required.
  • Managing and setting priorities for all team members in the MEP team.
  • Assessing the client’s exact needs at the start of a new project and developing a plan to meet those needs by participating in any meetings required with the client’s department heads and other stakeholders throughout the entire onboarding process.
  • Collaborating with the data hall team and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
  • Developing and implementing documentation relevant to business & facility operations i.e equipment manuals, policies and procedures, MoPs, and emergency procedures when required.
  • Delivery of exceptional customer service and satisfaction.
  • Develop and Manage maintenance agreements and contracts- T&M, Basic or Comprehensive
  • Manage and follow-up Equipment warranty
  • Develop and maintain an effective spare part holdings and management system
  • Develop and maintain the Facilities Contamination Control Policies and Procedures.
  • Lead the Facility Management Team
  • Create and Maintain the Facilities Maintenance Schedule
  • Develop and maintain a Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Create and Maintain MoP Manual, Work Instruction Documents, etc
  • Maintain a list of Tools required for Maintenance activities
  • Provide Facilities Maintenance Training Program
  • Any other Job assigned to you by management.

Ideal candidate requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or relevant discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure System- Power, Cooling, Telecom, Electronic Safety and Security Systems
  • Data Centre Infrastructure System Related Certifications
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in Data Center Infrastructure, and related Mission Critical Systems
  • 3+ years of experience on supervisory activities in technical environment
  • Fluent in English and Amharic
  • Should be resilient and capable of working long hours.
  • Should have strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Should have strong leadership skills
  • Should also be able to work under minimum supervision.
  • Should possess excellent analytical skills.
  • Should have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Should possess integrity values and be very dependable.
  • Should be quick learning in new technologies
