Job Summary:

The Compliance Officer will ensure the company’s adherence to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies related to the issuance and operation of payment instruments. This role involves the proactive identification, management, and mitigation of compliance risks to safeguard the organization’s integrity, reputation, and operational effectiveness.

Ensures a company functions in a legal and ethical manner while meeting its business goals. He/She is responsible for developing compliance programs, reviewing company policies, and advising management on possible risks.

The compliance officer is responsible for participating in the wallet’s efforts to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism. In addition, the role holder is responsible for checking/conducting the implementation of AML and CFT, other directives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and mitigating associated risks.

In addition, he/she shall be responsible for the settlement and reconciliation of YaYa Wallet transactions with all integrated banks, EthSwitch, and other stakeholders.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing payment instrument issuers, such as AML/CFT regulations, data protection laws, and financial services regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory developments and assess their impact on company operations.
  • Develop and implement compliance communication strategies and training programs; contribute to the development and revision of compliance, AML/CFT, and KYC-related policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and update internal compliance policies and procedures for the payment instrument industry, ensuring effective dissemination and employee training to promote a compliance-aware culture.
  • Conduct regular compliance risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and collaborate with other departments to address them.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of compliance policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, and programs.
  • Prepare executive-level compliance risk assessment reports tailored to the needs of the Board of Directors, Executive Management, and regulators.
  • Monitor the company’s operations to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements, prepare and submit compliance reports, investigate and resolve compliance issues, and demonstrate the company’s code of conduct and corporate image to the public.
  • Serve as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) or support it, overseeing customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, and transaction monitoring processes, and implementing effective systems to detect and report suspicious activities.
  • Support compliance audits and investigations, conducting internal investigations into suspected violations and recommending corrective actions.
  • Foster stakeholder collaboration across legal, finance, IT, and other teams to ensure compliance and provide strategic advice on compliance-related matters.
  • Engage in teamwork, collaboration, and transparent work practices;
  • Provide services as per the service level agreement.
  • Contribute to the company’s profitability as per the target set;
  • Conduct an assessment of new wallet products and services of the company to ensure compliance with laws and NBE directives.
  • Be responsible for the settlement and reconciliation of YaYa Wallet transactions with all integrated banks, EthSwitch, and other stakeholders.
  • Handle additional related assignments as directed by the immediate supervisor.

Required Technical Competency

  • Good knowledge of AML and CFT laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Experience in interpreting and implementing regulatory requirements
  • Clear understanding of economics, emerging technologies, bank risks, and relevant emerging issues in risk management.
  • Knowledge of policies, regulations, and directives related to Financial Sectors
  • Risk management skills including risk assessment, evaluation, quantification, mitigation and reporting skills.
  • Computer Literate

About You

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Management, Finance & Accounts, Economics, or any related field.
  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, risk management, or other related areas, preferably within the financial or payment systems industry
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of the payment industry, regulatory framework governing payment instrument issuers, and other related areas.
