Job Description


Founded in 1899, NABU (The Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union) is the oldest and largest environment association in Germany. It encompasses more than 940,000 members and supporters, who commit themselves to the conservation of threatened habitats, flora, and fauna, to climate protection and energy policy. Since 2006 NABU has been working in Ethiopia towards conserving natural habitats, climate adaptation and mitigation and empowering people to conserve and manage their local resources. Jointly with the Ethiopian government and local communities, NABU turned two regions into UNESCO biosphere reserves.

Summary

We are in search of a committed Community Facilitator to join our project team. As a Community Facilitator, your main responsibility will be to offer vital support to the communities. This role will involve building capacity, collecting data, offering technical assistance, and overall aid in fostering positive transformation within the project area.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating community engagement and participation in project activities with focus to women and youth
  • Providing technical backstopping to communities on nature. based livelihood initiatives
  • Supporting capacity development of community members
  • Collecting data related to project outcomes
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with local communities, including community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders
  • Facilitating community engagement and participation includes the land use planning process, strengthening of PFM activities, BR governance and livelihood activities
  • Coordinating and conducting outreach and education initiatives to raise awareness about socio-ecological change and sustainable practices
  • Liaising with local government agencies and other relevant organizations to ensure alignment and synergy with project objectives
  • Monitoring project progress and reporting findings to the site coordinator

Location: In one of the project’s Woreda in Hurumu, Yayo, Bilo Nopa, and Algae Sachi in Illu Ababora zone, Oromia (please specify the woreda you are applying for)

Duration: ASAP to 31/05/2027

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, community development, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, plant science/horticulture and related fields or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in community facilitation or a related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of socio-ecological issues and nature-based livelihoods
  • Valid motorbike driving license
  • Experience working with rural communities
  • Proven experience working with communities, particularly in rural or remote settings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build report and trust with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and project management skills
  • Basic proficiency in English and fluency in Afan Oromo
