Job Description


General scope of the job

Working to the Deputy Country Director, the Communications, Partnerships and Fundraising Manager will coordinate and lead the communications, partnerships and fundraising related activities of Vita in Ethiopia. The incumbent will play a key role in strengthening existing partnerships while developing new ones. Moreover, he/she will be responsible in leading the overall communications function of Vita and supporting the fundraising effort in Ethiopia and at HQ level.

In consultation with the Ethiopian and Dublin Office management teams, the successful applicant will lead the development and implementation of the Vita Fundraising and Communications Strategy to increase resource generation and diversify funding sources. This will be achieved through proactive engagement with internal and external stakeholders.  The position holder will be responsible for establishing and managing relations with media representatives within Ethiopia, including providing background information on Vita Ethiopia and supporting the documentation and dissemination outputs of all the country projects.

Dimensions of the Communications, Partnerships and Fundraising Manager

The roles and responsibilities of the Communication, Partnership, and Fundraising Manager will fall under the following dimensions:

Communications

With regard to communications, the CPFM will have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Capturing and presenting Vita’s work and successes for a variety of audiences, using a variety of communication channels
  • Proactively engaging with internal and external stakeholders in order to promote positive, accurate information about the work of Vita
  • Coordinate all the communication activities of the organization in consultation with the program and admin team
  • Develop and/or revise the communication, fundraising & partnerships strategy devise and implement an annual plan,
  • Design, write, edit, produce and distribute appropriate communications products (e.g. newsletters, progress reports, short note series, brochures, Web message) and communicate consistent and coherently strategic messages about Vita and its activities.
  • Engage and manage different communication channels such as print media, website and social media channels
  • Provide close support to the deputy country director in undertaking communication with partners, donors, and other stakeholders
  • Responsible for providing technical support to the program staff and local communities in developing project  related communication materials and ensuring high standards of production
  • Maintaining up-to-date and relevant collections of these works, including case studies, video files, presentations and reports
  • Strengthen Vita’s branding and visibility with all audiences as defined in Vita’s strategy
  • Prepare M&E reports and data for public consumption / awareness-raising and ensure they are widely distributed.
  • As part of a team, you will plan, organize and successfully execute conferences, workshops and showcasing events

Partnership and Fundraising:

  • Identifying possible funding partners (donors) and other relevant partners (technical partnership, coordination) and engaging with them
  • Identifying relevant calls for proposal, for discussion with management and the program team. Performing as a key member of the wider Vita communication & fundraising team.
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with existing partners and donors through regular and agreed communications which may include field visits to project sites
  • Assisting with the collation and presentation of project data specifically for use in grant proposals and reports: linking in directly with the programs and M&E teams in order to ensure prompt, accurate information is available for donors
  • Represent Vita to external stakeholders at conferences, meetings and events and report back on matters arising from these engagements
  • Investigate and contribute to strategic decisions and criteria setting in relation to developing alternate income streams and partnerships
  • Develop and manage positive and constructive relationships with potential donors and partners, and internal and external stakeholders, meeting
  • In coordination with HQ, identify and track funding prospects as they arise and maintain the appropriate tracking tools
  • co-ordinate the delivery of micro grant proposals, reports and all necessary Information
  • Organize regular fundraising meetings with the country team while linking in with the communications and fundraising team in Vita Ireland.

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism, Communication, Public Relations or International Development
  • Minimum five years’ work experience in a similar position, preferably in an International NGO or private sector at a senior level
  • Ability and experienced at writing for different purposes to deliver both complex and simple material as desired;
  • Strong social media skills and ability to produce good quality images.
  • Knowledge and experience of fundraising is necessary

Duty Station: Addis Ababa with frequent field or international travel as needed
