Project Overview And Role

CATALYZE is a $250 million 5 to 8-year program, designed to catalyze $2 billion in private capital, especially to underfinanced social sectors (such as education) and higher risk countries (especially low-income and post-conflict countries) around the globe, complemented by a cross-cutting inclusion of gender-lens investing. CATALYZE will provide services to USAID missions and bureaus that “buy in” to tap the CATALYZE investment and pay-for-results project management expertise. Our aim is for investors to explore and find commercially viable opportunities and approaches to creating jobs, developing sustainable social services, tightening, and rationalizing supply chains, and advancing inclusive growth.

About USAID CATALYZE Ethiopia: MS4G

USAID CATALYZE Ethiopia: MS4G is designed to benefit the Ethiopian people, build community resilience, and strengthen rural-urban linkages in the areas of food security, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). MS4G invests in developing relationships with private sector players, co-investing in inclusive business models, advisory services, digital solutions, and market-based initiatives that increase the resilience and sustainability of Ethiopian enterprises and employment for women and youth. The project supports activities in Addis Ababa and secondary cities.

To strengthen the private sector in the food security and WASH sectors, MS4G uses a market-based approach to deliver business development and financial advisory services to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The project leverages Business Advisory Service Providers (BASPs) Pay-for-Results (P4R) awards and co-creates and co-fund partnerships to enhance enterprises’ performance, product/service delivery, and inclusion. The activities are designed to build institutional capacity, enhance knowledge and skill transfers through workforce development initiatives, advance the business enabling environment, accelerate digital transformations and scale best practices to increase productivity and quality.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

CATALYZE Ethiopia MS4G, Communication Manager – S/he will be responsible for implementing MS4G’s communications strategy, with targeted messaging for both public and private stakeholders.

  • Writes, edits, and oversees the production of publications, including articles, newsletters, reports, photos, infographics, success stories, social media messaging, etc., in compliance with MS4G / USAID branding guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Assist the communication team to develop an effective implementation plan to carry out their communications strategies.
  • Identifies and develops appropriate communications strategies
  • Defines client expectations/requirements and measurements for success.
  • Participates in the design and execution of MS4Gs annual corporate communications strategy and plan.
  • Disseminate regular project updates to interested stakeholders
  • Oversee progress on the implementation of the communications strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • – Understanding and experience working with a market systems project and knowledge/experience of USAID Communication rules.
  • Ability to synthesize complex documents into a language that is accessible and compelling to external audiences; experience working on enterprise growth, inclusive finance, blended finance, impact investing, agribusiness, or related areas.
  • Ability to synthesize and simplify information and communicate it in a lively, accurate and understandable manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of USAID branding and communications style.
  • Excellent English verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Excellent editing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and track record of designing and implementing a dynamic communications and knowledge management strategies.
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven with strong organizational skills, and ability to work in a dynamic and agile environment with changing requirements and priorities.
  • Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, management, diplomacy, and collaboration skills in highly complex structures involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under extreme pressure, build consensus, engage a variety of stakeholders, and work with diverse groups of people.

Desired Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in project communications, including 4 years in a communication and/or M&E role on a USAID-funded project.
  • Experience engaging diverse stakeholders, including governments, civil society, and international donors.
  • Ability to transform technical concepts into content that is relevant and will achieve strategic objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and oversee multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
