Job Description


POSITION SUMMERY

The Communications Unit at ICAP in Ethiopia has mainly engaged in designing, managing, and implementing the internal and external communication strategies of the organization. The Unit also works to ensure the proper execution of ICAP’s publication and branding guidelines and monitors the quality of materials that are printed by or through ICAP.

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Advisor, the Communications Officer is responsible to execute and accomplish ICAP’s internal and external communication and knowledge management objectives. The officer is largely responsible to enhance the visibility of the organization through promoting ICAP’s program portfolio, its technical approaches and impact stories in Ethiopia. The main duties for the communication officer include external relations and engagement with Media, and key implementing partners, strengthen documentation, coordinate major events, and follow up and ensure the quality and standard of ICAP’s publications and promote ICAP’s visual identity to the wider public, develop IEC/BCC and demand creation materials; craft tailored messages; produce newsletters, booklets, reports, and technical proceedings. The Communication Officer will closely support the Malaria Diagnosis and Treatment Activity (MDTA), a five-year program funded by USAID through the President’s Malaria Initiatives (PMI).

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Document the implementation process, outcomes and best practices and innovative project initiatives and produce high quality knowledge materials in the form of project brief, technical brief, poster presentations etc.
  • Document impact stories from ICAP’s HIV and Malaria project implementation experiences in the format of case studies, success stories, best practices, and documentary films.
  • Capture photos from ICAP supported sites and events regularly, contribute to ICAP’s photo library, and substantiate materials which are disseminated internally and externally with visual evidences.
  • Coordinate major events organized by ICAP such as project closeouts events, inaugural ceremonies, scientific conferences, and workshops etc.
  • Organize and exhibit ICAP’s knowledge products at resource dissemination forums such as health exhibitions, result dissemination events, booths, knowledge fairs, conferences etc.
  • Capture key learnings, evidence and effective strategies from review meetings, scientific conferences and workshops and national policies and strategies and share the resources to staff members of ICAP in Ethiopia upon approval by the Communications Advisor and the Country Director.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange within the ICAP organizational system and thereby enhance staff engagement, awareness, and motivation towards the overall institutional effort.
  • Draft, edit, and finalize, news pieces, success stories, articles, and other contents for website update and other purposes.
  • Facilitate the submission of success stories to funder agency at least on quarterly basis
  • Strengthen robust mechanisms that would help to capture, store, validate and retrieve knowledge generated from ICAP’s diverse project implementations and ensure the institutional memory is properly housed and are at easy access for retrieval.
  • Ensure client education materials, provider support tools, desktop references and flip charts and other knowledge products are disseminated and reached the target audience timely.
  • Document all technical resources produced and used by ICAP in Ethiopia both in electronic and hardcopy formats at an accessible repository and ensure ICAP’s resource center is properly managed and utilized.
  • Ensure adherence of ICAP’s and partners’ branding compliance in all facets of the ICAP materials.
  • Stay informed of all relevant issues in the national health sector policies, strategies, programs, and activities in order to develop rich, diverse, and well-grounded project communication materials harmonized with the national policies and priorities.

Job Requirements

  • A Graduate Degree in Communications, Journalism, Sociology and Political Science and International Relations, or in other related fields.
  • A minimum of 5 years directly related professional experience in public relations and media preferably with NGO experience.
  • Professional photography and videography skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft office packages, skill of using graphics designing software such Adobe Photoshop, Adobe illustrative and Adobe InDesign etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and business communications skills and team player
  • Approximately 40% travel to supported regions and health facilities
