Job Description


Dan Church Aid (DCA) is a Denmark-based international NGO registered under certificate # 1083 by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations and working to improve the wellbeing of particularly the rural and pre-urban people in Ethiopia. DCA’s Programme mainly focus on save live, building resilience and fighting inequality targeting highly disaster-prone areas in Oromia, Amhara, Afar, and Gambella regions.

Over all responsibilities of the Job

Responsible for designing and implementing DCA ET Communication Strategy in line with Global Communication Policies and Procedures. Ensure donor compliance in project communication and business development (new projects). Ensure quality communication of Country Programme results.

Managing HQ relations related to Communication Teams and task holder of HQ communication visits.

Purpose:

  • Responsible for DCA Communication strategy
  • Responsible for quality communication of Country Programme achievements
  • Ensure strong marketing profile including DCA marketing material (roll ups etc) are exposed in all DCA events with partners and stakeholders.
  • Build the capacity of DCA staff and partners in communication to ensure quality communication and documentation of success stories.
  • Take the lead in ensuring donor compliance in relation to communication including visibility requirements and communication of project achievements and results. Be responsible for drafting project communication plans in line with donor requirements.
  • Responsible for providing communication input in relation to business development, e.g. new project proposals, CN, amongst others
  • Responsible for DCA ET factsheets, Capacity Statements, SoMe platforms and DCA ET Weekly Newsletter (internal) and Project updates/briefs to key donors.

Engagement

  • Cooperate and Coordinate closely with DCA partners, CO and Field offices, and HQ media units.
  • Write stories and articles highlighting DCA work in Ethiopia in close collaboration with HQ media team.
  • Prepare articles and press releases to local, Denmark and other media outlets when necessary.
  • Visit project sites and beneficiaries to compile best practices, success stories, and outcomes of DCA and its partners’ work.
  • Regularly update contextual information on project activities and beneficiaries’ info bank.

Delivery

  • Organize and maintain DCA communication and documentation files on the common drive, including newsletters, articles, success stories, fact sheets, capacity statements, amongst others
  • Organise photo archive
  • Organize a list of relevant media, newspapers, photographers

About You

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or related studies; experience in INGOs or UN preferred.
  • Minimum five years in communication experience, ideally for an NGO or another organization in development and relief programming.
  • Excellent English oral and written language skills is required.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier, and Canva is strongly desired.
  • Highly proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and desktop publishing skills is required.
  • Familiarity with communication tools and technologies, such as social media platforms, video production software, and content management systems, is essential for modern communication efforts.

  • Creative, systematic and structured, independent as well as team player with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Highly flexible in style with the ability to produce creative and pragmatic solutions to communications problems.
  • Understanding of the complexities of working in a multicultural environment and demonstrable ability to put diversity and gender equity at the heart of starategy, policy and practice.
  • Ability to communicate complex development issues in a popular manner.
  • Ability to travel to the most remote areas of Ethiopia and cope with local conditions and culture in a respectful manner.
