imagine1day international Organization was founded in 2007 by Canadian philanthropists Summer and Chip Wilson with the goal of ensuring that all Ethiopian children have access to quality education, free of foreign aid, by 2030. Working under Ethiopia’s public education system and in partnership with the country’s federal, regional and district government education offices, women, children and youth offices, in Particular and other social services Providing Government Structures in general. We have been implementing programs that mainly focuses on the education and children protection in emergency, leadership developments WASH activities in Schools and community development and emergency responses Program in Ethiopia region. Accordingly, we are looking to fill the vacant positions of education and child protection zonal Program Coordinators in Oromia region for Education and child Protection program we are implementing with UNICEF and other Partners in Oromia regional States.

Duration: contract of 6 months with possibility of extension

Job Overview:

The CP-GBV Program Officer is responsible to ensure coordination and implementation of child protection including gender-based violence in emergencies (CP-GBV) interventions for “the Project “Project targeted woreda in line with Program cooperation Agreement (PCA). She / he will coordinate the program at woreda level and make sure that the programme is implemented at target kebeles / site level in line with the agreement made through the PCA. She/he will be providing guidance and support for social workers and other community based structures for the implementation of child protection case management and provision of services for children including identification, documentation, family tracing and re-unification (FTR), provision of psychosocial support (PSS) and prevention, risk mitigation and response services addressing GBV. She / he will ensure a periodic and timely reporting of response and child protection situation in target Woreda

Main responsibilities;

With guidance and support from the Zonal CP/GBV Programme Coordinator and in collaboration with Woreda Women and Children Affairs Office (WoWCA) staff and as part of the overall response plan implementation;

  • Develop and submit a work plan for the employment period.
  • Provide technical and management support for the implementation, monitoring and reporting of child protection in emergency programmes and ensuring that the following interventions included in the child protection priority focus areas are implemented, monitored and managed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provide technical support to programme staff and partners such as Women and Children Affairs Office in the implementation of emergency child protection response plan. This includes ensuring that the efforts are aligned with existing government mechanisms and services to strengthen the sustainability of efforts.
  • On-going capacity building of social workers and front line workers on prevention and response to violence, referral pathways, case management, community based child protection systems, community mobilization, integration of child protection into other programmes (multi sectorial programming);and psychosocial support in line with capacity building plans.
  • Monitor and report on results of capacity building efforts.
  • Undertake response implementation in line with relevant Child Protection in Emergencies standards, including the Minimum Standards for CP in Humanitarian Action , the IASC Guidelines for Integrating GBV into Humanitarian Interventions and the SoPs on Child Protection Case management Services in Emergency Response in Ethiopia
  • Delivery of child protection response services, with a focus on delivery through multi-sectoral platforms (including education, health and nutrition and WASH).
  • Support to social workers to ensure that psychological first aid and psychosocial support services are provided with a focus on a package of services extending from safe spaces into the community coping mechanisms, also with a focus on psychological first aid.
  • Regularly collect, analyze and report against the woreda level child protection including gender-based violence response target and collect, analyze & summarize child protection report from assigned social worker in the designated Woreda &submit weekly updates to Zonal CP/GBV Program Coordinator
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting requirements from woreda and kebeles /sites are met (as per the established format) and systematic coordination of appropriate responses on child protection in emergency operational response plan, with other relevant sectors, especially health, nutrition, education and WASH.
  • Coordinate and provide support for the woreda level WoWCYA led coordination mechanism for effective implementation of emergency child protection interventions at woreda and site level.
  • Participate in woreda level child protection and emergency response related meetings and share minutes of such meetings with Zonal CP-GBV Program Coordinator.
  • Undertake information management including collecting, analysing, and reporting of child protection in emergencies situation and response interventions.
  • Monitor the coverage and complementarity of kebele / site level child protection activities and recommend for corrective actions to be taken in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to and facilitate the mainstreaming of child protection in other coordination mechanisms and sectors through information exchange and joint mapping.
  • Facilitate and support to donors field visit to emergency response in target woreda and kebeles / sites.
  • Undertake other relevant tasks as directed by her/ his supervisor and assist with other duties in support of the Child Protection in Emergencies Programme.

Job Requirements

  • University degree at an advanced level in the field of Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Social Anthropology child care and development, Gender study , law, Community Development, Development Studies and related.
  • Extensive work experience relevant to child protection in both development and emergencies At least 2 years progressively responsible humanitarian and development work experience in child protection and gender based violence including in emergencies
  • Previous experience in child protection and GBV program coordination
  • In addition to CP/GBV experience having education experience is an asset Familiarity and experience working with government counterparts
  • Strong knowledge and experience in establishing child protection coordination architecture especially at woreda levels will be an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and local language
