Job Description


Waterlife Construction PLC, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Carbon Project Manager to support our efforts in certifying safe water supply systems in rural Ethiopia for carbon credits. Our for-profit enterprise has partnered with the Fair Climate Fund India to initiate the certification process and the project has been successfully listed under the Gold Standard. As the first small-scale carbon project in Ethiopia focused on safe water supply, we are seeking an individual who can bring additional capacity to our team to ensure the successful management and implementation of the carbon project and someone who can take leadership in guaranteeing that all stipulations and requirements are met for successful carbon project certification.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the entire carbon project development process from Waterlife side, guiding local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)  in data collection for monitoring, reporting, verification (MRV) work around water quality monitoring, quantities of safe water delivered, designing and delivering trainings for operation and maintenance and reporting thereof, monitoring Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) impacts, ensuring that revenues from carbon credits are properly channeled to local partners for sustainable scale-up, and assisting in scaling up operations to amplify impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and technical support to local implementing SMEs in data collection for MRV work including detailed work breakdown structures, critical path analysis, and resource allocation.
  • Lead capacity building efforts for local implementing SMEs to improve their ability to collect and report data for MRV work.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to project staff, ensuring that they have the necessary support and resources to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
  • Collaborate with local partners to ensure that revenues from carbon credits are properly channeled to support sustainable scale-up of safe water supply systems.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with all stakeholders involved in the project, including project developer FCF India, Waterlife management, and third-party verifiers, and local government.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant international standards and guidelines for carbon project development and certification standards.
  • Identify and address any challenges or issues that arise during the project development process
  • Manage project documentation and maintain accurate records of project activities.to share with Fair Climate Fund India.

Job Requirement

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and/or related field
  • Excellent English and Amharic communication and writing skills. Proficiency in Sidama is highly preferred.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • At least 3 years of experience in project management in the water sector, with a proven record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and to required quality standards
  • Experience working in rural Ethiopia
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring and evaluation principles and practices and demonstrated experience in developing and/or managing MRV/MEAL systems
  • Knowledge of carbon project certification and MRV work therein is preferred
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with extensive travel to Sidama and Amhara Regional States
