Job Description


As the Business Controller (Cost Accountant), you will be at the forefront of ensuring accurate cost accounting and providing critical insights for effective decision-making. Your role will involve a meticulous approach to cost analysis, compliance, and collaboration to drive the company’s financial success.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive cost accounting system that accurately captures and allocates costs to products or services. Continuously review and refine this system to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with industry standards.
  • Calculate the cost of goods sold with precision, considering all direct and indirect costs associated with production. Use accurate costing methods to ensure reliable inventory valuation.
  • Allocate indirect costs to appropriate cost centers or products using appropriate allocation methods. Ensure fairness and accuracy in cost distribution to support accurate performance measurement.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of cost variances, comparing actual costs to budgeted or standard costs. Provide detailed explanations for deviations, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Prepare comprehensive cost reports that clearly present cost information, trends, and insights. These reports should be tailored to the needs of management, providing actionable information for strategic decision-making.
  • Actively participate in inventory management processes, including cycle counting and physical inventory audits. Ensure accurate inventory records and help identify areas for inventory optimization.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cost control strategies. Provide input on cost reduction initiatives and monitor the effectiveness of these strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and sales, to understand cost drivers and opportunities for cost optimization. Provide financial insights and support to these teams to drive better business decisions.
  • Stay updated on changes in cost accounting standards and regulations. Ensure compliance with these standards and implement necessary changes to the company’s cost accounting practices.
  • Participate in financial audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations related to cost accounting. Address audit findings and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Analyze the impact of cost changes on product pricing and profitability. Provide recommendations on pricing strategies and product mix to maximize profitability.
  • Train and mentor junior staff on cost accounting principles and practices. Foster a culture of accuracy and compliance within the cost accounting team.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree and above in accounting or a related field. A master’s degree in accounting or an MBA with a concentration in finance is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices. Certification in cost accounting (e.g., CMA) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting software and ERP systems. Experience with advanced cost accounting modules is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing or production environments is beneficial.
