Job Description


KAKI PLC is an official dealer and assembler of ISUZU vehicle in Ethiopia. It is also engaged in different business lines including import, export, metal fabrication, after sales services, and cargo freight transport operations. The company wishes to employ a qualified professional for the Body Shop Controller position.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct the work activities of body shop staff, including their observance of deadlines and productivity levels, as well as the maintenance of quality standards, and while achieving a reasonable operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction standards.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedule the body shop repair works to meet customer needs, by taking into account workshop targets, the complexity of each job and the availability of parts.
  • Establish objectives for the body shop jointly with the workshop controller, and attain these objectives.
  • Manage and establish the work plan and set time scales for all body shop employees.
  • Consider the feasibility of repairs against the replacement of parts such as bumpers, fenders and doors, and consult the customer to take an appropriate decision.
  • Examine damaged vehicles to determine the degree of structural and mechanical damage, as well as damage to the bodywork and the insides of the vehicles.
  • Evaluate the cost of labor and parts to repair or replace each damaged part and report it to the Workshop controller for him to discuss it with the service advisor.
  • Review repair cost estimates in coordination with the technicians, including the Senior Body man.
  • Encourage teamwork in and an environment that focuses on customer service.
  • Liaise with the Workshop controller and the Service advisor to estimate costs for the repair services.
  • Collaborate with the Workshop controller to expedite procurement of vehicle parts, equipment and various other items required for the body shop repair activities.
  • Manage assignment duties and work schedules to the body shop staff according to their skills.
  • Maintain job sheets to ensure that the required time and materials are allocated for each repair job.
  • If there is a delay in the job process and the delivery of time needs to be changed, relay those details to the Body Shop Manager.
  • Accurately record technicians time, and write technical reports and recommendations.
  • Assist the workshop controller in the process of analyzing and evaluating repair procedures and associated costs and recommend improvements when appropriate.
  • Ensure that all body repair services are carried out correctly and on time, and with customer satisfaction in mind.
  • Supervise the completion of work order forms to maintain accurate vehicle repair records.
  • Review work volumes, plan and continuously monitor staffing levels to ensure efficiency, quality work product, and effective customer service.
  • Check how work is progressing at the workshop; and ensure that the repair guidelines and safety are observed at all times.
  • Ensure that the appropriate safety equipment is available and being used properly.
  • Ensure that the appropriate procedures are followed for warranty related works.
  • Review performance of employees against key performance indicators, develop, and execute strategies for improvement.
  • Follow up on orders sent to parts department, to ensure that the parts are available.
  • Keep updated about best practices in the ISUZU service industry.
  • Assist vehicle technicians with technical challenges to identify solutions to make sure scheduled maintenance works are conducted effectively and efficiently.
  • Assist the Workshop controller in relaying any additional works that may be identified because of inspection or disassembly to the service advisor for making changes on cost and delivery time.
  • Keep updated about available equipment and new tools and recommend purchase of such things to improve efficiency.
  • Coordinate with the training officer in identifying training needs of technicians.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and well-organized workshop environment through consistent application of 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain).
  • Conduct employee performance appraisal periodically to evaluate how well employees have completed their duty and to take any needful action accordingly.
  • Prepare workshop performance reports on a regular basis.

About You

Required Number           :  1(One)

Qualification                    :  BSc Degree in Automotive, or Mechanical Engineering or related field

Work Experience             :  6 years in relevant role

Required Competence    :

  • Knowledge of Vehicle Parts and Services
  • Computer skill, communication skills, English language proficiency
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Good skills in computer applications
