Job Description


HelpAge International(www.helpage.org) is the secretariat to the HelpAge Global Network, which brings together a wide range of organisations and individuals working to promote the rights and meet the needs of older women and men, nationally and/or internationally. At the core of this network, are civil society members, a group of civil society organisations working with older people around the world. These organisations share a vision of a world in which all older people are valued, and lead dignified, healthy and secure lives. HelpAge has been operating in Ethiopia since 1992 and has been involved on thematic sectors including social protection, health and wellbeing, emergency response, capacity building of partners and advocacy efforts.

HelpAge International has been responding to the needs of refugees and Internally displaced Peoples (IDPs) as well as hosting communities in both Gambela and Benishangul Gumuz Region, with special focus on specific needs of older people and PWDs. Currently we are implementing humanitarian response projects in both locations in close consultation and coordination with the Regional government and RRS, UNHCR and other humanitarian actors involved in various sectors.

Summary

We are looking for motivated and self-driven individuals for the position of Asistant logistic officer based at Assosa.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS

Experience in planning, organizing, processing, managing and documenting the purchase and delivery of goods and services; ensure that the right materials are delivered to the right location on time and at a fair cost; involve in transportation, stock control, and the flow of materials and delivery of services, an understanding of the whole supply chain management is required, so as to co-ordinate and effectively liaise with suppliers, etc. Provide technical and operational support to the project offices, as well as advice on application of logistics management best practice, systems and procedures. Take initiative in management improvement for the logistic function. She/he also facilitate and/or deliver all travel related services to HelpAge International project offices on time. Implement HAI procurement policies and procedures, Vehicle polices, etc.; Store management and support in the distribution of goods, filing and collaborative partnerships with other organizations and working closely; strong communication, negotiation & representational skills etc. is required.

Contract Length: One year with possibility of extension

Duty Station: Assosa

Key Relationships

Internal: Addis and Field: Humanitarian Program team, Communications Officer; Head of Finance and operation and Country Director, Programme and Operation staff in Assosa

External: UNHCR, ARRA, Regional Government Offices other actors

Job Requirements

Educational background : BA degree in Business Administration, Purchasing & Supplies Management, or Logistic Management or related fields from well recognized academic institution plus third level driver’s license and at least two years direct work experience in Non-Governmental Organizations in purchasing, logistic/general services, or other similar positions.

Essential Experience and Skills:

  • At least 2 years’ relevant experience in INGOs.
  • Ability to manage multiple and complex tasks.
  • Excellent team player and ability to take assignments on pressure.
  • Ability to work proactively and supportively within a team.
  • Proven ability to plan, implement and documents purchase, and transportations related documents for references.
  • Proficient in computer applications (word, spreadsheet, power points, Office 365 etc.).
  • Behavioural Competencies: Team work skill; Result oriented; resilient under stressful environment; self-managed, committed, knowledgeable and confident.
