Job Description


Empathy for Life Integrated Development Association /ELiDA/ was established in 2008 and licensed by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) with Certificate No. 1143. The organization envisions seeing socially responsible, conscious, and productive women and girls who are meaningfully empowered to take part in the leadership and decision-making processes if the Country’s major societal aspects. Likewise, ELiDA exists to exert and contribute to poverty reduction endeavors undertaken in the Country. It is actively working advocating on climate change and environmental protection, promoting girls’ education, women’s participation in peace building and conflict resolution, human rights promotion, response to gender-based violence, child protection, and women’s economic empowerment in Addis Ababa, Amhara, and Afar, regions. Its key funding partners include UK Aid, UN Women, UN Trust Fund, USAID/IRI, African Women’s Development Fund, UNDP, UNOHCHR, the Malala Foundation, FCDO, and Ethiopian Aid.

 

Key Objective of the position

 

Being a member of the program management team, the Area Program Coordinator will play a crucial role to manage, coordinate and oversee different projects under the portfolio of Dessie Coordination office; He/she will often be responsible to lead projects and teams, monitor and ensure the right implementation of projects, communicate with local stakeholders, verify and/or approve program expenditures, prepare action plans and other communication instruments, facilitate enabling environment for the successful implementation of projects, maintain records pertaining to project activities, and reporting. The Area Program Coordinator will work in close consultation with the Program Manager and in collaboration with different teams and local stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and result of all projects.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the MEL Officer

 

  • Planning and coordination of a projects/programs managed under Dessie Coordination office, including its human resources.. etc.
  • Maintaining budget and tracking expenditures/transactions of accordingly pertaining projects.
  • Schedule and organize meetings/events and maintain agendas in connection to ELiDA’s programs/projects implemented under Dessie Coordination office.
  • Support growth and program development activities of the organization, including project designing and resource mobilization exercises.
  • Manage area level communication, visibility and public relation activities of the organization with diffident stakeholder.
  • Prepare regular reports and plans on program/project performance and impact for internal and external communication, sharing, and learning purpose in consultation with ELIDA’s MEAL Officer and Program Manager.
  • Attend training and learning events in the project areas representing ELIDA and cascade new developments to the organization’s program team and its stakeholders.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor and support program/project implementation and identify and forward areas of improvement using back-to-office reports.
  • Ensure the implementation of ELiDA’s Policies, Procedures and Manuals at area level (like Human Resource, Finance, Safeguarding, PSEA, etc.)
  • Manage area level staff work assignments, workloads and work schedules based on weekly plans and regular monitoring and discussion platforms.
  • Control/handle the appropriate utilization of technology, material assets, equipment, furniture, devices, etc of ELiDA in the Area Coordination Office and teams under the office.
  • Compile and share lessons, good practices, and case stories from project/program implementations.
  • Carry out other tasks related in consultation with the ELIDA Program Manager and the Executive Director to enhance the quality of projects and organizational achievements.

About You

Minimum Job Requirements:

 

  • Master’s Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Economics, Sociology, or Gender Studies.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable experience in project coordination or area level project management positions in the development or Local civil society and/or INGO sector.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using information communication technologies and devices.
  • Proven experience and proficiency in writing standard periodic reports.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and interpersonal communication skills with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a strong attention to details and contexts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and volatile working environment.
  • Interest and commitment to work in and with women-led civil society organizations.
