Job Description


Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Programme Manager and/or Project Coordinator the incumbent will implement agroforestry activities that enhance biodiversity conservation, income and resilience for target community in Metema Wareda. The activities include technical trainings and capacity building to improve skills & production in new/pre-existing livelihood assets such as high value multi- purpose free seedlings planting & trial site/centre, and coordination, supervision of project activities that include onsite training of farmers and other related services.

Responsibilities and Duties

In accordance with Tree Aid Ethiopia (TAE) approved policies and procedures, the employee:

  • Implement agroforestry activities as defined in the project in close collaboration with the community and woreda level stakeholders:
  • Oversee village level sensitization meetings on agroforestry practices:
  • Train smallholders on agroforestry practices and land use plan development and implementation to optimize utilization of their land;
  • Facilitate woreda and regional stakeholders’ meetings and workshops:
  • Provide technical support on agroforestry to targeted community:
  • Coordinate peer learning, joint monitoring and experiences sharing events:
  • Capture and document endogenous knowledge, develop factsheets, case stories and good practices:
  • Jointly work with relevant Zonal and Woreda sector Offices & community leaders:
  • Ensure community involvement and project sustainability:
  • Support experimental plots/center management and farmers establishment of demonstration sites:
  • Engage in lessons learnt at the pilot sites for dissemination across regions and Assist in upscaling of the approaches used at the pilot sites:
  • Participate in mainstreaming of agrobiodiversity conservation Into the national agricultural systems:
  • Conduct any other duties as may be assigned by the line Manager;

Qualifications/Skills

Required Experience

  • Proven experience of different biodiversity conservation and Agro- forestry
  • Practical research experiences is an advantage

Educational Background

  • MSc degree (preferable) or BSc degree (essential) in the fields of Agro- biodiversity, natural resources management and related fields
  • At least 4 years for MSc and 6 years for BSc of proven direct experience.
  • Result-oriented, problem-solving attitude and ability to work with little guidance.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of the local community’s language is essential
