DEPENDING ON AVAILABILITY OF FUNDING

JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse provides primary care in the Samaritan’s Purse Mobile Medical and Nutrition Unit in the program are, performing triage, rapid testing, essential nursing procedures, and patient follow‑up for communicable and non‑communicable conditions. The position ensures adherence to national protocols and infection‑control standards, maintains clear and culturally sensitive patient communication, and collaborates closely with physicians and clinical leadership. The incumbent supports accurate documentation, epidemiological reporting, equipment and supply management, and contributes to staff training while upholding strict patient confidentiality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver primary care services to children and adults for both communicable and non‑communicable conditions within the Mobile Medical Health and Nutrition Unit.
  • Provide patient care aligned with updated medical guidelines, SP protocols, national standards, and universal infection‑prevention practices.
  • Perform rapid diagnostic tests in accordance with national protocols.
  • Carry out essential nursing procedures, including wound care, injections, and other routine clinical tasks.
  • Support physicians during consultations and clinical procedures.
  • Apply professional nursing judgment to ensure timely, appropriate, and patient‑centered care.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow‑up steps, ensuring understanding.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain culturally sensitive care and communication.
  • Monitor patient progress throughout treatment, conduct follow‑up assessments, prescribe care per SP protocols, and coordinate referrals when needed.
  • Assist clinical leadership in enforcing infection prevention and control standards.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to epidemiological data collection, reporting concerns or complications to the M&E Manager and Health Program Manager.
  • Conduct patient triage upon arrival to the mobile unit.
  • Alert physicians or medical officers promptly about urgent or high‑priority patient conditions.
  • Support the Medical Coordinator in overseeing the functionality of the mobile unit, including equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Uphold strict patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in training and mentoring activities to help disseminate new clinical knowledge and protocols among staff.
  • Carry out additional tasks and responsibilities with a generous and serving spirit for the benefit of Samaritan’s Purse.
About You

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • BSC in Nursing.
  • Current Licensure in Nursing.
  • 4 – 5 years in hospital/ clinic setting or NGOs, preferably in low-resource setting.

LANGUAGE

  • Proficiency in English and Amharic
  • Knowledge of the regional language required
  • Knowledge of any other national language is a plus

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
