Child Safeguarding:
Level 3: Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff
ROLE PURPOSE: The position holder is responsible for managing and overseeing overall health and nutrition activities in the assigned woreda including planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of health and nutrition activities. s/he is expected to lead and ensure the technical quality implementation of health and nutrition activities in the woreda and while maintaining close working relationship with the woreda, Kebele, community, and religious leaders, HWs, HEWs, and CHVs for the effective implementation and linkage of health and nutrition activities with the community and facility. s/he is responsible for representing Save the Children International in woreda level partners coordination platforms. In addition, the position holder is also expected to provide a consistent and high-quality technical support in relation to health and nutrition activities implementation and will assist CMAM/IMAM officers, IYCF, MHNTs, OTP/SC nurses, measurers and other team in the woreda to build strong implementation packages.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Report to: Health & Nutrition Coordinator
Dimensions: Save the Children works in 9 regions in Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately 1,800 staff and a current expenditure of approximately $90+ million each year.
Staff directly reporting to this post: Nutrition Officer, IYCF Officer, TSFP Warehouse Officer.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health and nutrition activities in the assigned woreda.
- Establish and maintain good working environment with woreda level partners including woreda health office, HWs, HEWs, CHVs and the community.
- Represent Save the Children International in partners coordination platforms at the assigned woreda.
- Document and share feedback from woreda level partners coordination meetings to the supervisor as appropriate.
- Provide technical support and training where required to all team remembers, outreach teams including health extension workers and community volunteers and ensure the quality implementation of the programs.
- Conduct regular field visits with woreda health to provide supportive supervisions to health and nutrition teams, woreda staff (HWs and HEWs).
- Document findings, lessons learned, and recommendations of the field visits for fallow up actions and share as appropriate with the nutrition coordinator.
- Makes sure that CMAM/IMAM, MHNTs programs are implemented according to the National protocol i.e., application of the admission and discharge criteria, closely monitors and strictly follows anthropometry measurement.
- Ensure that TSFP protocols are strictly fallowed and implemented.
- Facilitates the trainings under the health and nutrition projects at the assigned woreda.
- Makes sure that the health and nutrition staff have adequate training on the management of acute malnutrition per National manual.
- Ensures the availability of job aids, reporting formats, therapeutic products and drugs for program implementation.
- Supports and liaise with the health center staff and provide on the job training and capacity building where required.
- Makes sure that health professionals from the health facilities to participate on the daily routine work for sustainability and smooth phase out strategy,
- Works and liaise with any local health workers to integrate the CMAM/IMAM program from the start.
- Prepare and share weekly, monthly and quarterly reports of health and nutrition activities including SC/OTP/TSFP, IYCF, MHNTs, community mobilization and screening reports on time to the nutrition coordinator.
- Provide regular updates on nutrition stock status and support woreda health office to request supplies a head of time.
- Coordinates the link of acute malnutrition cases with EOS/CBN/CHD/TSFP/PSNP and facilitates regular registration of non-EOS beneficiaries and submits on monthly bases.
- Provides a daily/weekly/and monthly overview of drug items, SFP materials and wet ration stocks supplied to beneficiaries,
- Manages the stock levels of therapeutic products, drugs and all other materials and alert the logistics in a timely manner as more materials are required.
- Reports any problems in a timely manner to the Nutrition field coordinator,
- Coaches and supervises the CMAM/IMAM, MHNTs, IYCF, SFP, OTP, SC program officer.

About You
- in Nursing or Public Health or Diploma in Nursing (Senior Clinical/Public Nurse or above). Experience:
- Minimum four years working experience for BSC. and six years’ experience for Diploma holders out of which two-year experience directly related to emergency health & nutrition related fields.
Skills/Ability required:
- Knowledge, training and experience in CMAM/IMAM and community mobilization/BCC.
- Demonstrated skills in program planning, implementation and monitoring.
- Teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated skills in peer group training, Training of Trainers and development of training materials.
- Proficiency in spoken and written Amharic, English and Local language.
- Strong computer (Microsoft skills), all and interpersonal skills.
