Job Description


The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing trauma rehabilitative services to survivors of gross human rights abuses, including torture, and works toward a future in which gross human rights violations cease to exist and victims have hope for a new life. We are headquartered in Minnesota, USA with offices in Africa and the Middle East. We work locally, nationally, and internationally through programs that provide trauma rehabilitative services, conduct technical assistance and capacity building to human rights activists, civil society organizations, and local service providers around the world who can prevent and treat gross human rights abuses, and advocate for human rights and an end to gross human rights violations.

General Description of Role

The M&E Assistant is responsible for the entry and checking of confidential clinical data, assisting in conducting client satisfaction surveys, prepare monitoring tools, as well as facilitation of setting up and gathering data from online training activities. The M&E Assistant will report to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in Shire/Mekelle.

Main Responsibilities

Data Entry: (60%)

Under the supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, review, enter, and clean electronic records of clinical activities and client assessment data. Process completed assessment forms (submitted by clinical and counseling staff); enter the data into a database; verify that data are correctly entered. Back-up data storage files after each wave of data entry. Safeguard the confidentiality of client data. Ensure the secure storage of electronic client data (as well as paper forms while in possession).

Recording: (15%)

Keep record of client and beneficiary information that are required for various reports such as cluster reports.

Support Collection of Clinical Data: (10%)

Maintain original, blank, paper copies of the clinical assessment forms. Ensure that a supply of adequate paper forms is available as needed by clinical and counseling staff. Work with M&E and clinical staff to ensure adequate procedures are in place to securely collect, enter, and store confidential client information, especially as forms are submitted to, and returned from, the M&E staff during data entry.

Other Data Related Tasks: (10%)

Contribute to other tasks to support the monitoring and evaluation of the program, including client satisfaction surveys, as directed. May support the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in some tasks related to data management and regular reporting for internal or external audiences.

Other Office Support Related Tasks: (5%)

Provide support for M&E and clinical team as assigned by the M&E Officer and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Coordinator.

About You

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Information technology or related.
  • Three years of experience at minimum
  • Excellent computer skills, especially strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must be fluent in Tigrigna, Amharic and English, written and spoken.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently, self-motivated.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good team player: able to take direction and work collaboratively with others.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to change.
  • Willing to travel within the operation areas.

Desired: 

  • Experience in data entry.
  • Experience with online surveys, such as Alchemer
  • Fluency in other Eritrean languages such as Saho, Tigre, etc.
  • Degree or other certifications in social science, computer science, program evaluation, etc.
