Job Description


Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is an Ethiopian Residents Charity committed to work for the benefit of children, youth, women and communities. It is currently working in North Shoa Zone of Amhara Regional State and in Sidama Zone of the Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Regional State (SNNPR).

Job Summary

Currently, ESD is seeking to hire competent, qualified and interested candidate for the position of Finance officer who is responsible to the implementation of “Her Protection Her Empowerment (HPHE): Strengthen local action addressing protection risk and empowerment of SGBV survivals”, Amhara Region, Ethiopia.

Note: – ESD has zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) and any forms of Gender-Based Violence.

Duty Station: Finote Selam

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Salary: Negotiable/commensurate with qualification

Duration: One-year contract

General Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain and control the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reports and payroll.
  • Reconcile and follow up of financial statements and bank reconciliations monthly.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
  • Support the project admin & finance officer in budget planning, modification and forecasting.
  • Ensure that the expenditure reported are reconciled with your accounting record.
  • Ensure that the financial reports have the required documentation before sharing;
  • Assist Admin & Finance Officer in the facilitation of project administration matters, such as procurement and close-out;

  • Able to seek appropriate advice and report concerns, and feel confident that they have been understood.
  • Understands local safeguarding structures and arrangements.
  • Practices in a manner that seeks to reduce the risk of abuse, harm or neglect.
  • Identifies and refers to appropriate services any other associated persons including careers, family members and children at risk.
  • Able to document safeguarding concerns, and maintain appropriate record-keeping, recording the wishes and views of the adult or child at risk, differentiating between fact and opinion.
  • Gather feedback and complaints on any concerns of the project implementation and organization and formally document and report back to field offices with a confidential and secure manner.

Required Qualification

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • BA in Accounting, Finance or related Field
  • Minimum 3 years of Experiences in managing project Finances, budgeting and financial reporting preferably in humanitarian or development context
  • A proven skill with computer based financial reporting is a must.
  • NGO work experience preferable

Required Skills:

  • Peachtree software application skill is preferable
  • Good knowledge of Excel application skill is mandatory
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Training on IPSAS is added value.
  • Administrative skill
