Job Description


The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church Development Commission/EKHCDC/ is a registered local nongovernmental organization which has been operating long term community development and humanitarian aid and rehabilitation interventions in all regions of Ethiopia since 1974. EKHCDC seeks a WASH and FSL project coordinator for the project planned to be implemented at Medega-Tollaa District of East Hararge Zone in Oromia Regional State in order to address the needs of the communities affected by the recurrent drought.

Job Overview

Early Recovery Project Coordinator is responsible for legal communications with respective EKHCDC line department and project committee, the line offices of the local government and CBO offices, cluster coordination and communication with other humanitarian organizations operating in Raya-Alamata district, overall coordination of the agriculture and rural development based early recovery project and its implementation as per the project plan, preparing progress reports and submit to the line offices of the government and EKHCDC Livelihood and Resilience department, involving in target beneficiary selection, screening, and verification, developing target beneficiary lists, set the project records and file,follow-up and providing technical and managerial support to project staff under his / her supervision.

Job duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the field office duties and coordinate the project work
  • Follow up the project staff monthly plan and achievements,
  • Arranging the selectionof the most affected householdsby the recent armed conflict as per the selection criteria in cooperation with the community facilitators, the line offices of the local government and community representatives,
  • Arrange the distribution of agricultural inputs and resources to the selected target HHs for their livelihood recoveries
  • Provide agricultural trainings to the target HHs in the selected target kebeles of Raya-Alamata district to ensure their food securities
  • Innovate the conservation agriculture/CA practices to the selected farmers and apply CA principles
  • Arrange the CA farmers’ field school/demonstrative learnings and experience sharing
  • Facilitate the rural women empowerment and gender balance through the formation of Self-Help
  • Groupsand their business engagements
  • Facilitate the SHGs/CLAs market linkages and connections
  • Facilitate the SHGs and CLAs linkage to the financial institutions
  • Arrange and set beneficiary accountability and feedback mechanisms
  • Manage and respond to complaintsor report to EKHCDC livelihood development and resilience department
  • Facilitate the psycho-social support/trauma healing of the conflict affected communities
  • Prepare progress and terminal report and submit to EKHCDC Livelihood development and resilience department and to the line offices of the local government
  • Follow up and assist, facilitators, volunteers and project committees
  • Build staff team spirit
  • Ensure the proper uses of project inputs (finance, human, and material resources)
  • Work in close contact with EKHCDCLivelihood Development and Resilience Department, CBOs and the line offices of the local government,
  • Any other duties assigned by EKHCDC line department at head office

Reports to: EKHCDC Humanitarian Aid and Peacebuilding Unit Head

Duty Position: Raya-Alamata District with field visit to project intervention Kebeles

Term of Employment: contract in project period

Job Requirements

Education Background and Experience

  • BA degree from recognized Colleges/universities in Agriculture or Agriculture related field of studies
  • Minimum of five-year experience in Community development projects, management and coordination with special focus on rural livelihood sectors.
  • Experience in field work with local communities
  • Experience in SHG formation follow up
  • Experience in agricultural practices
  • Fluent communication skills in local languages and English (listening, speaking and writing)
  • Skill in team work and interpersonal communication
  • Skills in training rural communities in agricultural production and self-help economic empowerments
  • Innovation skills in organization leadership/management
  • Skills in compliance handling and managing feedbacks
  • Knowledge in Core Humanitarian /Sphere Standards and polices
  • Knowledge of organizations mission, vision, values and policies
