Job Description


Job Summary

Under the supervision of the HRD Manager, the Ambulance Driver is responsible for the execution of all Ambulance driving matters of the Company including but not limited to Transporting patients to the hospital, Load and unload patients onto the ambulance, carrying out first aid, Understand, prepare, and fill out forms and documentation and Proactively seek out opportunities for expansion. The Driver is responsible for providing driving service as per the directives thereon.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Drive an ambulance safely and accurately to emergency calls; successfully pass required certifications and skills tests
  • Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and usable at all times.
  • Inspecting the ambulance before each shift, checking the fuel, oil, transmission, wiper, and coolant, and reporting any needed repairs.
  • Checking the first aid and medical supplies inventory levels before each shift and ensuring the ambulance is well-stocked.
  • Assisting patients onto gurneys and loading them into the ambulance.
  • Driving an ambulance as quickly and as safely as possible to transport patients to the hospital.
  • Providing first aid or administering oxygen if the patient requires care before reaching the hospital.
  • Sanitizing the ambulance and safely disposing of any medical waste and soiled linens.
  • Maintaining your driving log with daily entries and noting patients’ names and addresses, travel times, mileage, and service performed.
  • Reporting accident facts to medical personnel and police officers, when necessary.
  • Ensure validity of his/her driving license
  • Reports accidents timely to his/her supervisor all trip times, mileage and destinations.
  • Settle the Company’s utility expenses and various insurance payments
  • Drives safely at all times and observes traffic rules, keeps records of trips in logbook.
  • Report immediately any car accident to police and the company /insurance.
  • Ensures the annual car inspection is fulfilled on time before the Road Transport Authority’s deadline
  • Keep properly vehicle documents.
  • Assist with patient care, such as transferring patients from stretcher to ambulance and transporting them to emergency care facilities
  • Assist dispatch and medical personnel with performing patient assessments, communicating with emergency medical technicians and medical control stations, and responding appropriately to emergency situations
  • Maintain ambulance equipment, including cleaning, repairing, and sprucing it up
  • Assist with patient care, such as transferring patients from stretcher to ambulance and transporting them to emergency care facilities
  • Assist dispatch and medical personnel with performing patient assessments, communicating with emergency medical technicians and medical control stations, and responding appropriately to emergency situations
  • Maintain ambulance equipment, including cleaning, repairing, and sprucing it up
  • Assist customers and residents with needs, such as carrying their luggage and offering directions
  • Follows up maintenance need of the vehicle and promptly reports back to immediate supervisor.
  • Takes responsibility for the safety of the vehicle assigned, tools and accessories.
  • Perform other duties assigned to him /her by the immediate supervisor

Job Requirements

Position Requirement

Academic requirement: TVET diploma in Nursing or other related fields and having the required driving license

Work experience: At least 3 years relevant experience in driving Ambulance

  • Great judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Good physical agility.
  • Understanding English, Amharic and Afan Oromo is required.
