Job Purpose

Guraghe Development and Cultural Association (GDCA), in partnership with A Glimmer of Hope, has been operating Integrated Community Development Program (ICDP) in Gumer wereda, Gurage Zone, SNNPRS. Accordingly, “Livelihood Development Project”, which basically focuses on promoting value chains of selected agricultural commodities in the wereda. Livestock Development related objectives of the project are to increase and diversify income streams for smallholder farmers through improving production, productivity and market linkages of poultry and shoats, to promote improved dairy farming, and to provide decision making opportunities  for women and marginalized groups.  In order to bring the desired objectives into effect, GDCA is looking for hiring one Livestock officer, who fulfils competencies detailed hereunder.

Roles and  Responsibilities

• Facilitate & speed up all procured improved chickens breeds, local breed shots & improved bee hives and bee colony as well as drugs & other material support to targeted households timely.
• Ensure that livestock production & health activities that enable to promote the livestock products and marketing and this would create more income for communities.
• Ensure the overall livestock activities of the project are implemented according to the approved GDCA and Donor agreement.
• Coordinate &  support  the efforts of fodder production & emergency livestock response
• Organize proper vaccination of livestock under the project
• Facilitate strengthening of government veterinary clinics through drug and material support.
• organize capacity building trainings and resources & other logistic support as per the project plan
• Properly & timely compile all   relevant documents as like as case stories, success stories, pictures, photographs and lesson learned   during the implementation and constantly share it to concerned bodies
• Provide all the written weekly, monthly and quarterly reports timely as required by GDCA and the donor requirements.
• Ensure the work plan relates closely to the regularly updated project work plan guiding the project implementation and progress towards completion.
• Develop networking and communication with local government partners, and community representations in the project areas.
• Advocate to partners for project activities and objectives, and understand the project’s contribution to wider Development goals and objectives.
• Work closely with Kebele development agents & woreda agricultural officers  to link with project activities to their regular duties & responsibilities.
• Ensure that communities and partners have active engagement to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the project activities for quality and sustainable development.
• Work with the community and the Local Government organs to address the challenges, which can turn into great opportunities.
• Promote and come up with new innovation and simple ideas/technologies that will address some of the challenges.

Job Requirement

Education and Experience

• Bachelor/ Master degree in Livestock Development, Animal Science, or a related fields;
• 5 years experience on relevant positions for BSc and 3 years experience on relevant positions for MSc

Competency

• Ability to work outside, stand, and walk, for extended periods.
• Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office and other software.
• Exceptional active listening, speaking and written communication skills in English language.
• Ability to drive motor bike
• Ability to communicate with local languages
• Have positive team spirit and maintain strong relationships with staff
• Good communication (oral and written) skills in English; knowledge of Guragigna is advantageous.

• Willingness to work off hours and weekends.
