MTL MINING (ETHIOPIA) PLC or “MTL” is a locally registered exploration and mining company based in Ethiopia. MTL has recently acquired a gold and base metals exploration license located in southern Ethiopia and is looking for qualified and experienced exploration geologists to support its exploration works. Candidates must be Ethiopian citizens and willing to work in challenging and rewarding environment. MTL will offer industry standard conditions of service.

Summary

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the Exploration Geologist will implement and run field-based exploration programs across MTL license areas. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned exploration professional with a strong technical background. Interested candidates are invited to apply for the positions advertised below.

Key areas of responsibility:

• Execution and day to day running of field exploration programs compliant with accepted industry standards and Company Operating Procedures.
• Daily monitoring and management of geological staff and field exploration activities.
• Prepare and execute exploration plans as per the company strategy.
• Collect geological, geochemical and relevant geo information.
• Data compilation, accurate interpretation and transcription of complex exploration data.
• Logging of drillhole chips and core, compiling drillhole/trench sections.
• Geotechnical logging of drill core.
• Implementing company QAQC protocols.
• Detailed report writing as and when required.
• Assist in ensuring regulatory compliance with respect to monthly, quarterly and annual reports as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Mines.

Job Requirements

As a minimum, the prospective candidate must have/be:

• A B.Sc. degree (M.Sc. degree would be preferred) in Earth Sciences from a reputable tertiary institution.
• At least six years of diverse, field-based mineral exploration experience.
• A good understanding of QAQC protocols and the implementation thereof.
• Exploration project management skills.
• A demonstrated ability to multi-task.
• Excellent English language skills.
• Excellent report writing skills.
• Meticulous and detail-oriented, but with the ability to see the big picture.
• Observant, with the ability to logically interpret, understand, and accurately transcribe geological data.
• Good computer skills and software skills (ArcGIS skills are mandatory)
• A valid driving license.
