Job Description


A company exploring sustainable climate-smart irrigated farming for local food security and livestock resilience is looking for its next community manager. The position would involve direct stakeholder engagement from facilitating local environmental, socio-economic data collection to corporate governance trainings and key stakeholders’ meetings. The person would be based in Dollo Ado and Bokolmanyo weredas, with travels to Jigjiga, for a temporary six-month assignment to start with, prior to potential other arrangements. It would require demonstrated integrity and respect of core business and social values. It would also require demonstrated experience in the area in a similar capacity, managing sensitively and strategically various stakeholders at managers level from formal and customary authorities to local business, civil society and pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities; with a passionate, can do and problem-solving attitude with outstanding communication skills and a fluent commend of Somali, Amharic, and English languages. A degree in environmental, sustainable natural resource management is a plus.

Functions will include:

Ideal start date: January 2023.

Temporary 6-month assignment to start with, prior to potential other arrangements.

Business Community Management

  • Interview relevant stakeholders and document environmental, socio-economic information pertinent for the business as needs arise
  • Plan and facilitate the execution of strategic meetings (e.g., corporate governance trainings, key stakeholders’ meetings) – from planning to master of ceremony, note taking, individual participants’ preparation and follow up
  • Cultivate ‘participative’ relationships with key stakeholders, influencers; document, raise and address developments, identify new opportunities for engagement

Job Requirements

Education

  • Ideal candidate has a BA in Social work or marketing, communications, public relations.
  • Degrees in environmental and social development studies, sustainable natural resource management, climate change adaptation are a plus.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2-year experience working in the field of inclusive communication, community engagement in the area, building and maintaining sensitively and strategically positive relationships with various stakeholders at managers level from authorities to business, pastoralists, and agro-pastoralists.
  • Direct work experience with business is a strong advantage.

Technical skills : Public speaking, event planning, customer service

Languages : Proficiency in Amharic, Somali and English is required. Knowledge or proficiency of other local languages is an advantage.
