Job Description


Job Summary

The social worker is expected to perform towards the achievement of BBRF’s Mission and Goals while realizing the organizational values and code of conduct. This position is expected to function with moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures in the program manual along with professional code of conduct/ ethics. She/he will be the principal person to the overall operation of the assigned group home and will also have a major role in the successful implementation of the rest of BBRF’s Programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Engage and administer the selection/recruitment and intake of beneficiary teens who are clients to BBRFs programs’, follow up and facilitate beneficiary’s enrollment to different programs and also facilitate their discharge and follow up their settlement once teens become ready to be independent and on their own.
  • Coordinate, maintain and update all beneficiaries files making sure all the related information is compiled including, but not limited medical documents, psychological and counseling reports, school records and the like
  • Monitor requirements and analyze all the material, nutritional, medical, emotional and psychological needs of beneficiaries under the care of BBRF
  • Follow up on the health status of beneficiaries and manage medications and ensure appropriate usage as per requirement
  • Administer, monitor and manage beneficiaries’ appropriate behavior while coaching, positively influencing and being a role model to all teens under the care of Wubanchi Project
  • Ensure group homes and its staff members are well managed, check home members relationships (including among teens and mothers) are regulated and the family spirit is maintained.
  • Coordinate with group home teams and supervise efficient work of all home members to maintain optimal level of personal and home hygiene
  • Plan and supervise efficient group home schedules including recreational activities, tutorial services, church and school programs and the like
  • Plan and administer trainings for mothers and other support staff of group homes and all care givers under the programs of BBRF
  • Communicate and liaison with partners like government offices, private and government orphanages, schools, health centers and other organization for the successful implementation of the wubanchi project.
  • Maintain and update teens files on TVET, Distance sponsorship and other programs of the organization
  • Supervise group home mothers and guards, assisting them with periodic performance plans and conducting individual employees performance based on schedule set under personnel manual
  • Conduct home visits to meet with teens and the support staff in group homes and to do on-going assessment of child development and wellbeing
  • Stay up-to-date of all regulatory requirements related to social services and the developments in the profession
  • Manage assigned caseload of teens in accordance with program requirements and expectations
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Job Requirement

  • MA/BA in social work, sociology, psychology or any other related field of social science
  • 5 years of relevant work experience out of which a minimum of 2 years is in in a child/youth welfare organization
  • Having worked in projects that are related to governmental orphanages and their residents is a plus
  • Fluency in spoken and written English, Amharic. Knowledge of any other local language is a plus
  • Awareness and understanding of social development issues
  • Ability to work under high pressure.
  • Positive and professional approach: highly organized, results oriented, using initiative and keeping commitments.

  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Good character to encourage, motivate and influence children to good behavior.
  • Acceptance and adoptability to work with vulnerable children who might have difficult background and challenging behavior
