Job Description


The Policy Studies Institute (PSI) is mandated to conduct rigorous research and policy analysis that provide evidence-based inputs to policy making and policy implementations; and disseminate its research outputs, knowledge, and findings to the policymakers, researchers, academia, development partners, and other stakeholders. PSI is looking for candidates with a proven track record in partnership development and capacity building activities

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop a partnership and resource mobilization strategy and operational plan that meets the strategic role of the PSI
  • Identify, develop and manage strategically important partnerships and long-term (or core) funding opportunities to increase the Institutes’ research fund, reputation, and impact.
  • Create and develop partnerships, institutional links and networks; liaise and formalize through MoUs and LoAs.
  • Organize data and information on various types of funding (calls, fellowships, network grants, small travel grants, short visits, conferences, and workshops)
  • Writing grant/funding proposals such as grants and fellowships, and/or reporting back to donors
  • Giving effective verbal presentations in seminars, meetings, and poster sessions to leverage partnerships, networks, and connections
  • Liaising and communicate at a high level, both verbally and in writing, and capacity to effectively interact with a multiplicity of stakeholders including senior leaders, and partners;
  • Overseeing and coordinating partner/donor engagement and all resource mobilization and grant writing.
  • Providing training on planning and grant writing skills, policy research methodology, PSI research outputs;
  • Identify research capacity building needs, develop research capacity building strategy and plan research capacity building activities.
  • Carryout bench marking on policy research and study process
  • Hiring, supervising, and mentoring partnership & resource mobilization teams

Job Requirement

Education, Qualifications Essential Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Experience:

  • Minimum Ph.D/MSc degree in Economics or International Development Studies, Development Studies, or Political Science and International Relations
  • Minimum of 10 years’ of relevant experience in Partnership & Resource Mobilization development and management.
  • Excellent writing, reasoning, and analytical skills
  • Capacity building experience including training and skills development
  • Experience in developing successful grant proposals and/or tender bids to the EU, DFID, NORAD, SIDA, DANIDA, GIZ, Gates Foundation, AFD, Italian Cooperation, and other institutional donors
  • Experience in developing successful grant proposals to private donors – trusts and foundations and/or corporates
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to prioritize own workload and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lead complex grant proposal development teams
  • Excellent English language skills (written, reading, spoken, editing and computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS project.
