Job Description


Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Water Engineer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Design overall schemes and associated structures, such as pumping stations, pipework and earthworks (the scale of the design may range from an initial outline to a full, detailed design)
  • Prepare tender documents as a basis for construction
  • Review technical submissions
  • Proactively contribute to the preparation of specifications, BOQs, drawings and bid documents,
  • Keep up to date with environmental matters and be aware of policy and developments in the area Present technical data or project results to both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Support in construction supervision, contract administration of civil works construction and inspection of the construction of WOH clean water facilities,
  • Monitor the progress of projects from beginning to end – from design through to construction and handover – or supervise one section of a large project
  • Ensuring that projects keep to budgets and timescales
  • Administer labor contracts and ensure that work is completed to deadline
  • Manage technicians and site workers
  • Conduct quality assurance, when needed, of construction works and installation of pipelines reservoir
  • Responsible for and actively involved in identifying and managing risk in day to day activities and projects.
  • Follow the progress of all water projects run by WHO
  • Produce and submit monthly, annual and end of assignment reports to WOH
  • Documenting and follow up on important actions and decisions from meetings
  • Developing water project strategies, plans and create a project management calendar for fulfilling each goal and objective
  • Ensuring the water projects adhere to frameworks and all necessary documentation is maintained
  • Maintain an awareness of current environmental issues keeping up to date with changes in regulatory legislation and guidelines
  • Recommend solutions to water, environmental and sanitary engineering problems in the project area.
  • Promote learning between woredas by sharing information, progress reports and best practices
  • Assist woredas and towns to identify their program and management gaps and provide/facilitate technical assistance they require
  • Performs other related duties as required by the organization

JOB REQUIREMENT

  • Have a degree in water engineering from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience working on similar post of which three year in managerial position
  • Excellent written and verbal communication & strong interpersonal skills and Familiar with the region cultures , esthetic values etc
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other information processing software
    Strong organizational skills, and ability to work independently with minimal guidance
