Job Description


The Save the Children in Ethiopia Country Office (CO), in support of the Government of Ethiopia (GoE), has continued to contribute to the well-being of Ethiopian children in development and humanitarian contexts. We work to provide immediate humanitarian relief and long-term sustainable development.

ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of child safeguarding and PSEA coordinator, the post holder is expected to meet the quality standards child safeguarding and PSEA at the respective hub.

She/he will be responsible to assist projects/programs/ and field offices to ensure compliance are meet through community awareness, capacity building training, conduct project risk assessment and facilitate on the development of friendly materials. She/he will also responsible on assisting to implement safe program activities, establishing local reporting procedures, reporting, data management and share learnings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  1. Organizing and facilitate child safeguarding and PSEA awareness for volunteers, beneficiaries and other representatives for humanitarian response and development programs
  2. Identify high risk programs, conduct risk assessment, identified mitigation strategies and recorded, monitor and update the status on the identified risk in collaboration with program managers and focal points at field level
  3. Develop bi-annual learning based on the identified risks and challenges
  4. Ensure child safeguarding and PSEA messages are displayed in local language at project level
  5. Identify project level contact person for beneficiaries and ensure local child safeguarding reporting procedure is updated and displayed in project implementation areas
  6. Follow up on volunteer recruitment process of projects and ensure the proper documentation are kept in the data base/record in collaboration with HR and project manager
  7. Conduct focus group discussion with children and adult beneficiaries on safe programing and reporting
  8. Participate on investigation process on preliminary data collection, interviewing and follow up on the service provided as relevant
  9. Assess the child participation events and make sure the procedures are followed
  10. Compile and submit monthly report on child safeguarding and PSEA activities to child safeguarding coordinator
  11. Support local partners on training, risk assessment and other technical support as identified by the partner
  12. Participate in PSEA network meetings at the response areas as applicable
  13. Provide orientation for water track drivers, rental drivers, construction workers and consultants
  14. Facilitate translation of materials, editing and disseminate messages for various groups and monitor the understanding
  15. Mapping of service providers at project areas to ensure reported cases are referred to relevant stakeholders
  16. Participate on the kick off meetings conducted at filed level
  17. Take additional assignment when the demand supervisor including external representation

Technical Support role

  • Support communities to increase their knowledge and skills through training, exposure and joint actions
  • Strengthen community self-mobilization through their leaders for participation in their planning, implementation and monitoring of activities
  • Share latest development ideas and appropriate technologies to community members/groups
  • Share information on support and cooperation opportunities with communities and other stakeholders
  • Use a variety of extension methods, which are suited to the situation, and build the capacities (knowledge, and skills) of communities
  • Promote constructive customary mechanisms and institution building with in communities

 In order to be successful you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATION

  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree in social sciences and two years proven experience on child protection, education, social work. child safeguarding and other related filed.
  • Experience on facilitation and coordination of training and workshops
  • Experience in conducting assessment, monitoring and report writing
  • Practical experience on child participation on the intervention of program activities.
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of email, internet and Microsoft office
  • Fluency in spoken Afar Afe is mandatory

Desirable

  • Experience on child safeguarding and PSEA
  • Experience on humanitarian response programs
  • Femail Candidates are highly encouraged
  • Skill on illustration design and publication
