Project Description

FAST Has 3 Anticipated Intermediate Results (IR)

The purpose of the USAID/Ethiopia Food and Agriculture Systems Transformation (FAST) Activity is to increase access to healthy diets, particularly for women and children, by improving competitiveness, inclusiveness, and resilience of the Ethiopian food and agriculture system.

  • IR1: Increased availability of safe, diverse, nutritious foods
  • IR2: Increased incomes in the food and agriculture sectors
  • IR3: Increased convenience and desirability of safe, diverse, nutritious foods

There Are Also 4 Anticipated Sub-Intermediate Results (SIR)

  • SIR1: Food and agriculture supply better aligned with market demand
  • SIR2: Increased food safety and quality
  • SIR3: Increased entrepreneurship and employment in the food and agriculture sectors
  • SIR4: Increased partnership between the public and private sectors to advance key social priorities

Position Description

RTI is seeking a Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion Lead for Ethiopia FAST. The Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion Lead will be responsible for overseeing activities related to social inclusion. This position will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and will report to the Deputy Chief of Party – Technical.

Position is contingent upon award and funding.

Your primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Support the integration of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) activities in the work plan and support partners in mainstreaming GESI in their policies, practices, and activities.
  • Lead the design of gender-sensitive activities and GESI-specific tools in work planning to promote gender equity in project implementation.
  • Provide inputs to local partners and grantees to ensure that GESI considerations are integrated in their program and project design and implementation.
  • Work closely with the monitoring and evaluations team to ensure that gender issues are reflected in the M&E plan, framework, and reports to assess whether the gender objects are being met.
  • Conduct training on gender methodologies for partner organizations and support them in mainstreaming gender in their policies, management systems, and programs.
  • Network and coordinate gender program strategies as appropriate with partner organizations.

Required Skills And Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in gender studies, social development, psychology, political science, or related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience; or bachelor’s degree and at least 12 years.
  • Prior experience working on donor funded, particularly USAID-projects preferred.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with USAID, government counterparts at all levels, local organizations, community groups, and other program partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, guide, and implement work with demonstrated experience in mainstreaming GESI.
  • Nuanced understanding of the challenges faced by women and other marginalized groups in Ethiopia. Experience providing training on gender and social inclusion related issues.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English. Ability to speak local dialect(s) preferred.
