Job Description


Introduction

Our company, Senselet-a subsidiary of PepsiCo, is expanding and next year we will increase our capacity and complexity of the business. Looking for a hands-on, passionate and forward-looking Utility Manager who is eager to be part of a growing company to improve together and have an impact on the business. The candidate is expected to run the current facilities and what’s to come in the near future. The candidate also needs to be open to change and be ready to take good care of the new equipment from commissioning date.

The main responsibility of the Utility Manager is to fully run utility facilities and to execute maintenance on utility equipment and facilities. The Utilities Manager directs and manages the overall operation of the powerhouse, utility lines, WWTP, the production and distribution of utilities (water, vegetable oil infrastructure, diesel storage, air handling units, sprinkler system, chilled water, nitrogen, electrical systems, all sewer systems), and waste disposal. The Utility Manager is also responsible for leading maintenance systems, overseeing the continuous improvement of the utility generation process and executing long-term strategic plans to improve the high standard use of the utility equipment and its systems and installations.

Targets and deliverables

General

  • ·Manage utility team; planning their operation and maintenance jobs, develop their skills and performance
  • Ensures that problem solving is done in a structured way for his/her area of responsibility and checks quality of counter-measures
  • Ensuring compliance with standards, company rules and regulations and to product quality targets, including food safety and hygiene.
  • Overseeing the daily operation of water plant, powerhouse, compressed air and nitrogen supply, steam supply, waste water treatment and other utilities and disposal of waste to ensure user departments have uninterrupted supply of utilities to have a smooth run at all times.
  • Any other tasks and deliverables as given by the supervisors not listed in this JD (general manager and/or factory manager)

Preventive maintenance system (PMS)

  • Development and 100% execution of preventive maintenance system (PMS) in the factory and other company locations where utilities are found
  • Ensuring maximum lifetime of machinery through scheduled maintenance and minimum downtime due to unscheduled maintenance, in close collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Arrange relevant services provided by internal and external service providers, their specifications and the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) made (e.g., maintenance of cooling plant, supply of fuel, and electricity)
  • Improves maintenance plan by using engineering knowledge, machine condition, current performance and equipment history
  • Follow-up on DT reports and make sure improvements are made to prevent downtime in the future using UPS methodology.
  • Create and implement measures to minimize breakdowns and repairs (performing quality checks of all machinery, tools, equipment, etc.) and training of operator on the working principles of equipment

Corrective actions

  • Collect, list and follow-up on defect labels execution

Spare parts

  • Supervising the monitoring and planning of workshop items, maintenance equipment and spare parts.
  • Determining replacement strategy per equipment and part and manage corresponding inventory strategy (min. stock level, min. order quantity), taking lead times into account. Potentially together with the technical purchaser.

Organizational structure

Reporting to: Factory Manager, part of factory Management team.

Place of work: Tulofa site, utility manager is expected to arrange transportation to Senselet head office in Addis Ababa from which daily transportation is provided to the factory or move to the area of the factory during the week (preferred).

Job Requirements

Education

BSc/MSc. degree Electrical/Automation/Mechanical Engineering. Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems

Experience

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience from a private organization in a maintenance management role out of which 3 years in utilities area, preferably in FMCG sector (e.g., food processing, brewery) or manufacturing sector, preferably as a manager.

Technical skills

Good in Amharic and English (speaking, reading and writing), strong analytical thinking skills, good mechanical/electrical skills, strong technical problem-solving abilities, practical and technical thinker, good planner, good communications skills, basic knowledge on food safety, hygiene, HSSE&S. Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications and schematics and provide improvements.

Social skills

Able to adapt and show responsibility under challenging circumstances, serious and hard-working, eager to learn, good feedback mentality, result oriented, proactive with strong leadership capabilities in a non-hierarchical organization.

Entrepreneurial skills

Proven ability and experience to learn about new developments in the field, flexible and autonomous working, leading by example and hands-on mentality.
