Job Description


Light for the World is an international disability and development organization whose vision is an inclusive society where no one is left behind. We enable crucial eye health services and help empower people with disabilities in some of the poorest regions of the world.

Our programmes include:

  • Eye Health – preventing blindness and promoting eye health for all
  • Education – ensuring children with disabilities receive quality, inclusive education.
  • Work – enhancing access for persons with disabilities to opportunities for employment and self-employment
  • Neglected Tropical Diseases – elimination and control of neglected tropical diseases.

We focus on the poorest and hardest to reach because that’s where we will have the biggest impact. We create change through local people, organizations, and structures because we want our impact to last.

To increase the pool of our committed and competent local civil society partners, Light for the World would like to call interested local CSOs who have proven experience on the ground in changing the lives of the community through sustainable livelihood programs. Light for the World will provide a grant to implement inclusive economic empowerment programs for a minimum of two years in Amhara and SNNP regions. This will be effective from 2022 onwards. This partnership can even go beyond for multiple years depending on availability of funding and organizational performance.

Job Requirements

  • Legally established and registered under the Civil Society Agency Proclamation 1113/2019 and have fully fledge governance structure;
  • Have vision and mission to improve the lives of marginalized/hard to reach groups through economic empowerment/livelihood programs.
  • Have proven experiences in implementing sustainable and comprehensive livelihood/economic empowerment programs in Ethiopia; particularly in Amhara and or in SNNP regions;
  • Have solid presence in the community and have community structures that support implementation on the ground;
  • Minimum five or more years of experiences in the sector including but not limited to value chains/market linkages, village saving and loan associations, youth employment, etc.
  • Currently running similar program in the country in general and particularly in Amhara and SNNP regions. Organizations having active project/s in one of these regions are also eligible;
  • Solid track record and commitment of deliberate targeting of beneficiaries with disabilities and their families in the economic empowerment/livelihood sector and experiences of working with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities will be given priority.
