Job Description


GIZ Energy Programme Ethiopia

Since 2018, the GIZ project Green People’s Energy (GBE) aims to improve the conditions for decentralized energy supply in selected sub-Saharan African countries with the participation of citizens and companies. Activities will focus on Ethiopia, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mozambique, Zambia, Senegal, and Uganda. In addition to country-specific measures, the initiative promotes renewable energy projects of common benefit across countries and strengthens partnerships between actors in Europe and Africa. For its operations in Ethiopia, Green People’s Energy for Africa collaborates closely with the Ethiopian Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy (MoWIE) as well as with the Energising Development Ethiopia Project of GIZ (hereinafter: EnDev).

The main output areas of the Ethiopian country project of Green People’s Energy for Africa (GBE) are as follows:

1.Increasing vocational training capacities for solar PV

2.Promote use of solar PV energy for enhancing social services and production

3.Support decentralized, local energy supply and service provision initiatives

Contract end date:   15/12/2021

Duty station: Addis Ababa

Responsibilities

The Intern shall support the operations of the GBE project, especially those of the Productive Use of Energy and Investment Promotion component but also the Vocational Training & Cooperatives component and the project management.          

Job Responsibilities

The Intern has the following major responsibilities

  • Assisting in following-up and monitoring of training and coaching consultancy service being provided to GBE’s beneficiary renewable-energy (RE) companies in business development and investment promotion.
  • Assisting in following-up and monitoring of Finance Catalyst advisory service being provided by GET.invest to GBE’s beneficiary RE companies.
  • Supporting the conceptual planning and implementation of business-to-business meetups between RE companies and other potential financial and government actors.
  •  Supporting the collection of data, which may also entail field research.
  •  Assist in ordering the documentation and files.
  • Support the logistic organization of various events and workshops including preparation of reports notes and related information
  •  Carries out other project activities and any other tasks as assigned

 Qualifications

  • Minimum qualification requirements are university degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing Management, Economics, or other related fields from accredited academic institution.
  • The candidate is preferred to be recently graduated (no longer than two years)
  • Good knowledge of the Ethiopian government structures with and in-depth information on the energy sector
  • Ability in desk research, information gathering and prepare background analysis and present concisely
  • Fluency in English, strong qualities in interpersonal relationships and communication skills, ability and willing to work in a diverse cultural setting
  • Knowledge in digital technologies, Microsoft applications (MS Word, Excel, Power Point) and knowledge of office 365 and virtual meeting technologies is of advantage
  • Self-reliant and ability to work remotely (using ITC technologies, etc.)
