Job Description


Carry out all activities involving social support to individual patients/survivors and link them with other relevant support services and communities at large, according to MSF principles and guidelines.

Enhance the target population’s social condition to have an impact on health-related outcomes.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Conduct social assessments, identifying the social support needs of patients/survivors, including legal, protection, shelter/housing, financial/vocational, food security, and access to medical and psychosocial support services beyond the project intervention scope

• Support the provision of comprehensive care to patients and their families, in coordination with the other members of the MSF multidisciplinary team (i.e. medical, MHPSS) and link patients with multi-sectorial services such as protection, safety, security, legal, justice, education, and livelihood

• Provide direct social support based on social assessments and facilitate referrals to evaluated external re-sources

• Provide systematic follow-up on referrals made to health facilities and other multi-sectorial services aimed at improving the quality of life of patients/survivors

• Participate in the creation and maintenance of any material and equipment needed for the activities of social workers

• Map and regular update formal and informal support services, including community resources, assess their quality and efficacy, identify gaps and advocate for an improved social response

• Maintain records, statistics, files, and reports on all social work activities and follow-up care either provided by MSF or other support service.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• He/she will be in charge of the social work component for the patients admitted at MSF TCC and for the follow-up/continuity of care component of the Project

• Develop a general strategy of protection and social support for beneficiaries assisted by MSF medical teams in Addis Ababa and regions of origin, articulated in direct intervention and networking with territorial authorities (i.e. regional and zonal Labour and Social Affairs and Women and Children Bureaus) and other international and local stakeholders

• Support the TCC and Follow-up teams developing and following up a tailor-made social support plan for each patient admitted at MSF TCC or in charge of the Follow-up team, based on an initial in-depth assessment, in particular:

• a short-term plan for the period of time spent in Addis Ababa

• a middle/long-term plan for the period following the patient’s return to the place of origin

• Liaise with health facilities social workers in Addis Ababa (particularly St. Peter’s Specialized Hospital) in assisting MSF patients admitted

• Facilitate access of MSF medical staffs to returnees living in Addis Ababa sub-cities, and coordinate the social support to them, in collaboration with territorial authorities (Sub Cities Labour and Social Affairs and Women and Children Bureau) and other international and local NGOs

• In collaboration with the HP team, develop informative materials and tools aimed at supporting migrants/MSF patients in the reintegration process in their regions of origin

• Support the Project Coordinator in context analysis related to the presence and living conditions of migrants and refugees in the country, and in developing advocacy strategies aimed at the target population’s protection.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social science

Experience: Essential 2 years of previous experience in Similar position. Having worked in MSF or other NGOs in developing countries is essential.
