Internal and External

Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following position.

Purpose of the Job:

To lead the research and needs assessment of human rights education to identify knowledge gaps, challenges and analyse emerging trends.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of systems and research and data collection tools required to conduct research and needs assessment for human rights education.
  • Coordinate relevant human rights officers to conduct research and needs assessment, compile key findings, and organize discussion forums with the human rights education team.
  • Research, monitor and analyse emerging human rights issues.
  • Develop and maintain updated central system to store reports and findings from different research and needs assessment.
  • Collaborate with the human rights education delivery team to incorporate trainer’s feedback on research and with human rights curriculum design team to ensure research and needs assessment findings are informing the revision and development of human rights education training materials.
  • Monitor the progress of human rights education research and needs assessment activities against the financial plans/budgets.
  • Coordinate different functions of EHRC for integrating and supporting each other in research and needs assessment activities to optimize training costs.
  • Identify opportunities benefitting EHRC’s Human Rights Education Department’s program improvement, revision, drive changes and enable better performance tracking and reporting capacity.
  • Coordinate the write up and review of the research and publication of human rights education issues.
  • Support in managing close relationships with relevant national and international stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration, including other NHRIs and international and regional human rights networks.
  • Participate in relevant working groups/committees and staff meetings.
  • Ensure that roles, responsibilities and reporting lines are clear to each staff member and regularly discuss performance and provide feedback and coaching to staff.
  • Submit regular reports of the Function to the Director and other relevant organs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

LOCATION :Head Office

REPORT TO : Director, Human Rights Education

DURATION : Open Contract/indefinite period

DIRECT REPORTS : Human Rights Officers, Associate Human Rights Officer

SALARY RANGE : Gross monthly salary of ETB 25,756.00- ETB 30,676.00 plus ETB 8,000.00 housing allowance and ETB 1,900.00 transport allowance depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MA in Human Rights Law, LL.M in Human Rights, LLM in International Law,  LLM in Law (Public Law relevant to Human Rights). Candidates with Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) but with exceptional experience can be considered.
  • 6 years of relevant experience with MA including experience in management of resources.
  • Computer literate. 
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
