Job Description


Healing Hands of Joy (HHOJ) is a not-for-profit organization that exists to bring hope, happiness and a second chance to women affected by obstetric fistula (OF) in Ethiopia. It was established in the USA in 2009 and started operation in Ethiopia in 2010.

The goal of HHOJ is to enable women treated for obstetric fistula to resume full and productive lives within their families/communities. HHOJ therefore works to support women to recover from the sometimes devastating impact of OF. This involves restoring their self-esteem, confidence and physical, psychosocial and economic capacity to engage fully and meaningfully as a family and community member. It also aims to improve maternal health especially reducing maternal and neonatal deaths and OF by training women treated for OF to become Safe Motherhood Ambassadors (SMAs) within their communities.

Job Description

  • Facilitate the enrolment of women treated for obstetric fistula to rehabilitation and SMA training in close contact with fistula treatment Centres in the region and in consultation with the Regional Technical Advisor;
  • Ensure the SMA training components delivered by trainers are based on the training curriculum and materials provided by the organization;
  • Contribute in curriculum and training materials further development;
  • Prepare training time table in consultation with the Regional Technical Advisor and part-time trainers;
  • Ensure the training centre is properly managed and meets an adequate safe environment for trainees;
  • Facilitate male family members trainings;
  • Organize the development of care plans for woman on rehabilitation support during their stay at HHOJ and select those who need further individualized reintegration support and follow-up;
  • Conduct Individualized Reintegration Support and Follow-up in coordination with the Income Generating Activities support;
  • Conduct Stakeholder Workshops and Community Engagement Campaigns;
  • Ensure that the project operates within the approved budget and time frame, in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization and the signed agreements with government signatories and donors;
  • Monitor the implementation of HHOJs planned activities and their progress, and participate in evaluations;
  • Ensure documentation of the program activities, learning and maintain data in line with the existing M&E system; 
  • Write and submit regular project reports to the Regional Technical Advisor;
  • Assist financial reports and supporting documentation for donors are prepared as outlined in donor agreements;
  • Engage in annual project and budget preparation in collaboration with the Regional Technical Advisor and Finance Officer;
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

Education Qualification

  • B.A. in Social Sciences or B.Sc. in Environmental/Public Health Sciences

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of proven and progressive work experience, preferably in NGOs

 Technical Skills required:

  • Broad understanding and experience, preferably NGO experience, in project implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated technical ability, sound judgment, and ability to work effectively with others at all levels.
  • Excellent knowledge management, communication and presentation skill, ability to synthesize information from different sources and present information – orally and in writing – to users.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Fluent written and spoken English required.
  • Proficient in MS Office Packages and SPSS
  • Proficient in English, Amharic, and Afaan Oromo languages
