Job Description


Founded in 1957 in Nairobi, Kenya, Amref Health Africa is the largest Africa-based international non-government organization. With a vision ‘Lasting Health Change in Africa, Amref Health Africa works to ensure every African can enjoy the right to health services by helping create vibrant networks of informed communities that work with empowered health care providers in strong health systems. Our programs, supported by 12 program and business development offices in Europe and North America, reach 35 countries. With over half a century of experience in delivering health care and building health systems in Africa, we partner with those at the heart of communities, particularly women and children, to bring about lasting health change.

Since 2002, Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has partnered with communities; Ministry of Health (MoH), Minister of Water, Irrigation, and Energy, Ministry of Women, Children and Youth to implement integrated health projects throughout the country. With our communities at the center of our work, we focus on health solutions across our thematic areas, while strategically engaging cross-cutting issues including gender and social inclusion, advocacy, research, innovation, and technology, in addition to emergency and resilience building.

OUR WASH PROGRAM

Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is one of the leading non-government organisations implementing Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects, in very hard to reach and remote rural areas, pastoral localities and urban slums. Through our projects, we work to ensure access to and utilization of basic and improved WASH services by creating access to safe and adequate water supply and improved sanitation and hygiene services delivery.  Institutional capacity is also embedded in our interventions. We also address the root economic problems of the community by integrating WASH interventions with income generating and livelihood opportunities. Our program echos the vision of the international agenda – acting in collaborative partnership to achieve progress towards sustainable development goals by 2030. Overall, our program takes a particular interest in integrated service delivery that includes clean water and sanitation to ensure health and well-being for all Ethiopians.

Partnering with the Dutch government and private sectors in the Netherlands, we have delivered WASH and health interventions to communities almost throughout Ethiopia since 2004. Together, we have implemented 24 projects reaching 5.6 million people across five regions of Ethiopia.

Among our WASH projects funded by the Dutch Government and private sectors include WASH SDG and WASH First.

In order to document and promote the works and achievements of these projects through video documentary, photography and stories, Amref Health Africa would like to hire a professional media/communication and Photography consultant/firm.

OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY

The media/communication and photography consultant will be hired to document the outcomes of two projects in a professionally produced video documentaries (3-5 minutes each), and short videos (snap shots, each 20 seconds max) which we can be shared on social media, and in photography and written stories. Our WASH interventions and accomplishments to be featured include:

  • Contribution of the projects to provide sustainable solution to communities’ WASH challenges and ensure positive changes: improve WASH services in communities, WASH governance and capacities of communities to expand access to water, sanitation and hygiene services in targeted districts.
  • Contribution of the projects interventions to enhance the health of youth, women  and communities, improve the income/economic status of youth, women  and communities at large, to boost government and capacity of communities  to provide local solution to own challenges.
  • The importance of water access at schools and how the project interventions have improved school attendance of girls through improving hygiene and  MHM in the schools.
  • How health extension workers and health development army are well enaged in working with Amref and contribute towards addressing WASH challenges of the communities.
  •  How well our ‘WASH First’ project’s intervetion respond to COVID-19 in targeted districts and help improve prevention efforts among the community.
  • More specific topics to be documented in the video and photography and any further technical specification to be considered during the documentation will be shared later during the face-to-face meeting with the consulting team.

Job Requirements

  • Proven advanced skill in video documentary production and film making, photography and success/case story writing and packaging
  • Demonstrable professional writing and narrative skills and wider experience in the area of project success documentation for online and offline audience
  • Knowledge of Ethiopian WASH and health sectors and community level projects implementation
  • Equipped with relevant professional and quality tools and equipment necessary to carry out the job
  • Ability to deliver on time (three weeks after contract is signed)
  • Previous positive track record is an advantage
