Job Description


Purpose of the position:

WVE is working closely with the government and other stakeholders to respond to the needs of Internally Displaced People (IDP) in East and West Wellega and in its multi-sectoral response plan including; Food and nutrition, WASH and Protection of children and women affected by the humanitarian crises. WVE’s Child Protection interventions includes establishing of Child Friendly Spaces in selected IDP sites and addressing gender based violence (GBV) related needs by integrating into the other sectors to further strengthen a coherent protection response.

The emphasis of this position is on facilitating community participation and enabling children and women access protection services to reduce their vulnerabilities.

Major Responsibilities:

  •  Assist the project officer in situational assessment, operational planning, implementation and monitoring of the IDP activities
  • Provide individual and group psychological first aid/psycho-social support ,  facilitate case management  in including  family tracing and reunification and  alternative care service to children  and provide PFA and CM service  to women affected by the conflict to enable them restore their safety, dignity and hope.
  • Facilitate consultation and discussions with beneficiary populations, making sure they are involved in needs assessment, delivery of protection/assistance and development/implementation of durable solutions.
  • Closely work with local authorities and relevant government sector (women and children affairs, education, social affairs, schools etc) to facilitate recovery and reiteration of the affected population
  • Facilitate school enrolment for boys and girls and closely work with parents, community leaders, civil society organizations and other actors to ensure safety of children on the way to and from schools.
  • Ensure application of standards, guidelines and good practices for child protection and GBV in emergency related activities
  • Coordinate and manage the establishment of child friendly spaces in collaboration with school, local authorities, and faith leaders

Job Requirements

Qualifications:  Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  •  First degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education or other eleven fields.
  • At least one-year relevant experience in child protection and related areas,
  • Knowledge and experience on Gender Based Violence programming an asset.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement integrated CP responses, including Gender Based Violence.
  • Awareness of or interest in community based protection mechanisms.
  • Direct case management and experience working with children and adolescents is an asset.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
