Job Description


Background

Population, Health and Environment Ethiopia Consortium (PHE EC), is a consortium organization engaged in addressing issues of population, health and environment in an integrated manner for improved livelihoods and sustainable well-being of people and ecosystems in Ethiopia.

PHE-EC, jointly with other four Consortium Organizations, started Project implementation in Central Rift Valley area since 2019.Central Rift Valley Landscape Management program in the CRV and its surrounding escarpments has been designed to demonstrate effective, integrated and coordinated approach to natural resources management taking a landscape approach. Specifically, nine woredas and two parks (Abijata Shalla Lakes National Park and Senkelle Swayne Hartebeest Sanctuary SSHS)) has been selected for the project intervention.

Thus, PHE-EC is now seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced candidate for the position of Environmental Program Officer of the CRV Project area and would like to invite well experienced and professional applicants for this position to apply. This is an exciting and challenging position, where incredible achievement is expected and the thematic areas mainly on environmental and reproductive health, family planning and population, Population, health and environment integration approaches and dynamics, environmental conservation and related issues.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:  

  •  Support the reproductive Health/FP works in CRV Project area based on the CRV Project objectives
  • Support the Project Woredas and Kebeles on the works of RH/FP and overall PHE integration approaches
  • Facilitate trainings for Health professionals, HEW, and HDAs
  • Organize trainings and consultative workshops for Model women, Men Army leaders, peer educators and school community on RH/FP and related topics
  • Monitor and document the overall Project works particularly on PHE integration and RH/FP works
  • Work with the guidance of the CRV Project Coordinator based on the anticipated project plans
  • Develops reporting formats and short guidelines on the relevant issues.
  • Conduct regular field visits to project areas and monitor the project implementation so far jointly with relevant Government offices
  • Develop and sustain local partnerships with groups, organizations and agencies
  • Ensure that the works and projects  of the PHE EC complements and adds value to other existing local services, projects and initiatives and supports the development of the country
  • Collect Kebele and Woreda level relevant baseline and progress data and reports and document and analyse them accordingly
  • Provide appropriate services within the overall team concept, while at the same time, maintaining personal accountability for success.
  • Support the coordination and collaboration of project implementers to ensure timely communications and deliverables.
  • Attend and participate in relevant technical meetings/workshops, create and maintaining partnership for future engagements with potential stakeholders.

Nature of Job: Fixed terms of contract, with possibility of extension

Location: Ziway/Batu with regular visits to project sites

REPORTS TO: Central Rift Valley (CRV) Project Coordinator

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experiences

  •  BSc degree or Master’s degree in Environmental/reproductive, public Health Science, environment conservation or management, or in relevant fields.
  • At least 4 years of practical experience in environmental health for BSc and 3 years for Master’s Degree.
  • Experience and knowledge on Government’s RH/FP works
  • Knowledge and skill on Government’s strategic reproductive Health/Family Planning, public health and overall health packages
  • Knowledge and experience on gender equality and women empowerment issues
  • Excellent communications skill both in oral presentations and in writing
  • The ability to synthesize and analyze information critically.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal/external partners and promote collaboration in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, and, social media tools including Face book, LinkedIn, and Twitter for the benefit of the organization.
